Default escort mk5 heater not working

Hi all please can you help me i hav a mk5 escort 1.3 and the heater has stoped working i have checked the fuse and its ok and also changed ehe heater switch in the car but nothing ,i have also ran a wire from the pos side of the battery to the heater blower and touched the three point conector on the top and the blower works fine has anyone got any other ideas on what it could be many thanks to all of you shaw109

sounds like the heater resister has failed fella but when these go they normally only give you the full speed setting

Hi qup thanks for that i will have to go and check it again if it is that is it just a case of changing the hole fan or just the risistor its a pain the bum anyway you look at it anyway thanks again shaw109

hi there just checked fan works fine on 1,2,3, when testing with the wire have a volt meter so will check that now got any idea what it should be mate

Hi just to let you know i have tested the heater switch behine the dash and there is a good reading of 10.55 volts so am i right in thinking that it must be a short some wear or wolud that blow the fuse as the fuse is fine am lost with this one can sort most things myself but this has got me beat many thanks shaw109

hi all come on guys still need help withe this this is what i have tested 10.55 volts at the switch in the dash 10/11 volts at the main fuse box but only 5/6 volts at the multy plug on the top of the blower this seams low to me or is it wright ??? come on lads help me out this is driving me mad

ur fusebox is gone mate.the mk5 fuseboxes are renowned for this ,the solder track inside the fusebox goes dry and u then lose continuity.thats y no fuses are blown and the heater will work with a live from the battery ,.my suggestion for a quick fix would b to wire up a relayed live feed from the battery connected to the ignition switch so that it will only work when u switch on the ignition as normal

Hi Zetecturbo i have just fond out after going to hit the horn that the sound is very weak it is hardley working would this go along with the fuse box going like u said checked the feed wire and i only have 5/6 volts going to that two but again have 10/11 volts at the fuse box???

HI all ref horn now fixed bad earth cleaned up and works great ,but still not sorted the heater out. Zetecturbo i have checked the fuse box there is a good reading coming from there of 10/11 volts would the fuse box still be to blame for this?? thanks for all the help but still need more

hi mate the dry solder on the printed circuit board in the fusebox causes an intermittent fault thats y sometimes it mite work and then wont ,i guarantee ya mate its the fusebox is the cause

Hi all

Just to let you know had to go for the easy fix and have now wired it up to work from the live feed from the battery connected to the ignition switch so that it will only work when u switch on the ignition as normal not what i had planned to do but it will do untill i can get the fuse box sorted many thanks to all of you that help me with this shaw109

Fuse box as said.

Its all very well running reverse feeds, but when other things fail they will start back feeding off your bodged in wire, and theres the potential fot overload/fires to happen!

Just thought i would warn you......

If your thinkin of fitting a second hand box i wouldnt bother mate its more than likely going to be fucked aswell.

Hi safechav no mate had to order new one arriving on friday i hope it is the fuse box cos it was not cheap but the more i think of it the more it makes sence will let you know what happens when i fit it thanks again shaw109
