Default please,please help!!

I just reconned a series 2 rst engine with new mains, big ends and rings and the oil pump isnt that old but I only have 13psi at idle when hot.I just wish the oil pressure was higher because thats one of the reasons I decided to do a rebuild. Its done 3000 miles since I built it and it runs sweet but the pressure (or lack of it) is buggin me.What could be wrong?one of you guys must know.It couldnt be anything in the head could it?Oh the oil I am using is castrol rs 10-60w.pretty thick stuff.Cheers for reading everyone.

the min oil pressure for an s2 when hot is 14.5 psi from the book give or take a bit, the oil light doesent come on until between 4.3 to 7.2 psi so you have a fair bit of a margin there 13psi is quite ok for hot oil at idle and dont forget gauge accuracy
the main thing is you have good oil pressure under load which should be around
40 psi at 2000 rpm
the oil pressure relief opens at 58 psi so unless its jammed closed you wont get any more than that.

i take it you have the correct size shells,it doesent have oversized housings [mainbrgs] [cambrgs] or cam follower sleeves, and have you checked your relief valve,....does it have an external oil cooler ,these can block up too .....i have seen all of these problems on a cvh , also check the pickup pipe and make sure where it bolts to the pump that it is`nt warped, i also seem to recall that their is a relief valve in the head somewhere check that too ...............blaazer2

Cheers fellas. Some good info there. The shells are correct coz I had the crank ground and oversize shells. The head wasnt touched though but I didnt think that the head came into the equation when it came to oil pressure.I always thought that the oil pressure was measured from the pump to the bottom end shells? It doesnt have an external cooler and I cleaned the oip pump and pick up pipe with a fine tooth comb and the mating faces of the pump/pick up pipe are ok?I get worried about pressure coz I had an engine go pop once so I am a bit paranoid about pressure.I must admit I am dissapointed that the pressure isnt higher as I spent a fair bit reconning the motor. Some one told me to take the pressure relief valve in the pump out and stick a washer behind the spring to up the pressure.Apparently thats what burton power do to their high pressure pumps.relief valve in the head?Thats a new one to me blaazer?Never heard that one before mate.must look into it.

the relief valve is in the pump case and yes putting a washer behind the spring will up the system pressure. .but is it worth pulling the engine appart .your oil pressure is fine and its under load where the pressure should be checked as a final desicion maker

as the head is fed with oil pressure it definately comes into the equation, some heads had oversized housings, you could be unlucky and have one?[ask ford]
