Hi Can anyone tell me why my 1.6 zetec is blowing oil out of the breather which is on the cam cover it doesnt smoke it seems to be a little down on power it will only pull 100 when it used to do 120 easy, could this be the head gasket blown between a cylinder and a oil gallery also i am loosing a bit of water i have to top it up every couple of weeks
Cheers Ben

go to a motor factors mate.
in fact fuck the engine off and fit a 2 litre
do a compression test with no plugs in, this will tell ya if you have problems.
the breaher system could be proper blocked up as no one norm ever bothers to change the breather filter

excessive blow by i would say! If the gasket was gone you'd probably being seeing symptoms like the coolant and oil mixing!
Compression test it
Whats this about getting the head checked to see if you have dropped a stem seal

i dunno mate he semed to know his stuff and the steering rack was completely different my car is a 96 1.6 escort if i get a 1.8 escort lump will i be able to drop it straight in my car and change the ecu the engine aint a problem for me but do i need to use the keys from the 1.8 cos the keys are coded to the ecu thats the only thing im worried about i got visions of gettin the engine in and goin to fire it up and nothin happenin lol
i gotta do the cam belt head gasket and valve stems so i might aswell put another engine in.

The engine will drop straight in but im not 100% on the ECU situation, this all falls back to whether the PATS & EDIS are internal on the ECU or not

is there a way of checking the ecu code to find out about pats i got an alarm if it helps its weird tho its only ever gone off twice ones when i locked it with a door open and ones i opened the boot with the key and the alarm went off wen i shut it. but shurely if i get a 1.8 ecu with the red key i can program it to accept my original key, but then if i get too many problems with the ecu can i leave my 1.6 ecu in and get it chipped surely with the chip it will run okay

I just used a VIN decoader and it appears my car was built at hailwood uk, in september 1995 the bloke at the ford garage was obviously wrong lol but the steering rack is strange tho the pipes are threaded into the rack where normally the pipes are on a block which bolts to the rack does any one now how to tell what ecu i got and what one i need
