Oil blowing out of the breather

Hi Can anyone tell me why my 1.6 zetec is blowing oil out of the breather which is on the cam cover it doesnt smoke it seems to be a little down on power it will only pull 100 when it used to do 120 easy, could this be the head gasket blown between a cylinder and a oil gallery also i am loosing a bit of water i have to top it up every couple of weeks

Cheers Ben

I would go with your suspicion, ie headgasket.

i think ill change the gasket and take the head in to be checked see weither i have drooped stem seal im gonna pressure test it at some point see if there is any irregularitys in cylinder pressure.it is alao due a cam belt the poor things done 140,000 miles lol but saying that my mums automatic escort did 200,000 before the gearbox fucked up zetecs are a brilliant engine

benib 23-06-2007 05:09 PM

where is the best place on the internet to get the bits to do it ie gasket set timming belt, locker kit, tensioners and water pump Cheers Ben

go to a motor factors mate.

in fact fuck the engine off and fit a 2 litre :top:

do a compression test with no plugs in, this will tell ya if you have problems.

the breaher system could be proper blocked up as no one norm ever bothers to change the breather filter

SafeChav 24-06-2007 11:33 PM

excessive blow by i would say! If the gasket was gone you'd probably being seeing symptoms like the coolant and oil mixing!

Compression test it

Whats this about getting the head checked to see if you have dropped a stem seal :?

benib 26-06-2007 02:09 PM

i ment to say see if its dropped a valve and get the stem seals changed its running like a bag of shit think ill get another engine maybe a 1.8 out of another escort cant be botherd fuckin about with fittin 2 litre as my car is a german built model i think im gonna have problems as the loom and ecu is different

SafeChav 26-06-2007 05:42 PM

When you say its german built?

Why not do a compression test?!

benib 29-06-2007 04:48 PM

I ure tested it and it was down on 3 and 2 so its blowin across the cylinders dunno about the german thing but i had to change the steering rack and mine is completely different to the normal ones i asked why and they had a look at my car and told me it was a german built model?

SafeChav 29-06-2007 06:00 PM

:?

jayRS 29-06-2007 06:09 PM

yeah seems head gasket could be naffed then.

not heard about this german built thing, as most fords were made there or in spain

SafeChav 29-06-2007 06:16 PM

Just sounds like a poor excuse from someone who can't fix it and/or doesnt know what parts it needs to me

benib 29-06-2007 11:02 PM

i dunno mate he semed to know his stuff and the steering rack was completely different my car is a 96 1.6 escort if i get a 1.8 escort lump will i be able to drop it straight in my car and change the ecu the engine aint a problem for me but do i need to use the keys from the 1.8 cos the keys are coded to the ecu thats the only thing im worried about i got visions of gettin the engine in and goin to fire it up and nothin happenin lol
i gotta do the cam belt head gasket and valve stems so i might aswell put another engine in.

SafeChav 29-06-2007 11:20 PM

The engine will drop straight in but im not 100% on the ECU situation, this all falls back to whether the PATS & EDIS are internal on the ECU or not

benib 30-06-2007 09:51 AM

is there a way of checking the ecu code to find out about pats i got an alarm if it helps its weird tho its only ever gone off twice ones when i locked it with a door open and ones i opened the boot with the key and the alarm went off wen i shut it. but shurely if i get a 1.8 ecu with the red key i can program it to accept my original key, but then if i get too many problems with the ecu can i leave my 1.6 ecu in and get it chipped surely with the chip it will run okay

benib 30-06-2007 10:01 AM

I just used a VIN decoader and it appears my car was built at hailwood uk, in september 1995 the bloke at the ford garage was obviously wrong lol but the steering rack is strange tho the pipes are threaded into the rack where normally the pipes are on a block which bolts to the rack does any one now how to tell what ecu i got and what one i need
