zetec help needed peeps!!
hey.. first of all thanks for taking time out to read this....
right, my girlfriend has a 1.8 16v silver top zetec in her escort mk6 convertable and the lump is sounding a bit worse for wear...
I have a silver top 2.0 16v mondeo engine in my garage all complete apart from the ecu as i sold it to sum chappie on here...
My question is pretty predictable i spose... but will the mondy engine bolt straight up into/onto origional mounts?? will i need to swap over the sump?? what about the alternater bracket?? Aaaaaand will all the loom plug straight in?? can i run it on the 1.8 ecu??
I know the engine i have is sound... and id have no probs with the swap over myself aslong as everything is pretty straight forward...
All help and advice on this would be greatly apreaciated people...
Has anyone done this to their escort??
Thanks in advance my fellow ovalists!!!

I put a 2.0 zetec into my 1.6 setec fiesta, but the same principal for what you are wanting to do. Basicly you have to use the sump/oil picup pipe from the 1.8, a 1.8 waterpump and use the 1.8 ancillary things like alternator bracket ect. It will all bolt up ok but you might need to adapt the plate that goes between the engine and gearbox, although i left mine as it was but this leaves a hole.
The above is how it is done on the fiesta, and i see no reason for it being any different on her car.
You can run it on the 1.8 ecu, as some poeple have run their 2.0's on the 1.6 ecu. You will need the 2.0 maf and throttle bodie btw. If you later decid to go for a 2.0 ecu, you will need one with the code, i think desk, dewy or deep.
Hope that helps

as above very streight forward 130bhp with the right parts and again make sure you use right ecu if you go for the 2.0 one, or an rs1800 if you can get one so you dont have a prob with the immobiliser!
as above. just make sure you use the right water pump, as the mondeo one rotates the opposite direction to the fiesta/escort one. think you might have to use the escort sump aswell, something to do with clearance or something
this may be of some use

I wouldn't entertain running it on a 1.8 ECU personally.........you may there are wiring issues with certain 2 litre ECU's though, dependent on whether the EDIS is internal or external, and whether the PATS module is seperate or not.
safe chav... i read alot of ur replys to people on here and its god damn unbeleivable the amount of shit u kno!!!
In a good way mate!!
anyway uve made me a bit curious now.. as a few people have said it wld be fine to run this on the origional 1.8 ecu that the car is already running...
What wld be the advantages/disadvantages of running the 1.8 ecu apposed to the 2.0 ecu???
I kno that opinions are like arseholes and everyone has one...lol but wanna get as much info about this before its actually done....
Nuff respect for u fella!!!

might be wrong but i think you'll have to use the matching crank sensor to the flywheel, ie if your using a 2.0l flywheel then you'l need the 2.0l crank position sensor, or use your existing 1800 flywheel and 1800
sensor.
What year is your gf's car?
You can run it with the 1.8 ecu, but at the top end you might not get as much power as running with a 2.0 ecu, as i said, people have run tehir 2.0's on the 1.6 ecu for a trial period. If its a 130ps ecu your current 1.8 one then it will be fine, if its a 115 then you will be down on power.
The ecu will connect directly to the loom, but you will have to find out if your car has edis thing internal or external. I think in most cases you will be aloright using the 2.0 ecu from a mondeo, but it needs to be either dewy, desk or deep. Basicly find out if your edis is different from the mk3.5 zetec fiestas, if it isnt, then the above ecu's are the ones you need to look for and they will conect directly up.
You will most likely have to use the 1.8 flywheel (definetly if the escorts didnt come with a 2.0 engine) but the crank sensor will only need changing if the engine came from a automatic car. When i did my engine conversion i didnt touch this.

Personally if it was me doing it i'd want to go the whole hog and make sure it had the proper ECU in there, the characteristics of a 2.0 litre engine are going to be very different to that of a 1.8 litre engine.
Yes, i expect in reality many people have run their engines on 1.8 ECU's without any serious problems but its never going to run aswell as it could do, and car manufacturers dont spend millions of pounds developing management systems only to be bettered by a home DIY'er that thinks running a 1.8 ECU produces the same results, because it won't!
Obviously if you start going into chips then its a different ball game, depends what your budget is like and how easy the conversion is/how confident you feel as to what decision you make over it
U have a good point there SAFE CHAV!!! never really thought of it that way...
Only thing is i sold the ecu to a fella on here at the last ford fair!!DOH!!
My gf car is an N reg 1.8 16v ghia esy cab mk6, the engine i have is a 2.0 16v L reg mondy silvertop.. From this can u tell me which ecu i should have??
Like SAFECHAV says i think it wld be silly to run a 1.8 ecu when i cld run a 2.0 ecu and have the engines full power.. Theres obviously a difference as they wldnt have produced 2 different ecus i spose hey..
Fair comment!! gotta find an ecu now... So which 1 fellas???
Really apreaciate all u peeps help u kno!!

I can't tell you the code myself as i'm not overly clued up on Zetec's and as such i don't really like them.
But if you're buying an ECU make sure you get the Red Master Key for it aswell, as i'm sure it will have internal PATS, without it it'll cost you a lot of money having it re-programmed

yea but as i say it depends what ECU he buys, black tops are later engines, but theres nothing stopping him running it on a black top ECU if the work is done.
Do you get what i mean?
Do you get what i mean?
I dont get why people are ignoring my replies, I have done this conversion, not in the escort but in the fiesta and so it is going to be pretty much exacly the same, and its is also an N reg, so doubt it is going to be any different. If you get a deep, desk or dewy ecu you can keep your old key and not have to change the transponder thing. I wouldnt risk using an ecu from a black top as the pin setup for the ecu may be different, and as the blacktop is a different engine to the silver top i wouldnt recomend using it. The mk1 and mk2 silvertops have a variety of different ecu's, some internal, some external. Just because you get an ecu from a mk2 doesnt mean it will work, and just because that didnt work doesnt mean that the one from a mk1 will work.
So to irriterate, you need a deep, desk or dewy ecu, and these might be in a mk1 or mk2.

Ah nah not you dude, its just i basicly said which ecu he needs, and these are the only ones that have so far been found to work. Sorry, I had just got out of bed (lazy student!) so was in a grumpy mood!

lol are all students that grumpy in the morning??? lol...
right so basically i have a choice of 3 ecus then?? i take it that all three of these will work?? so the first one i come across either DEEP DESK or DEWY will do the job??
Really couldnt ask for any more help off of u fellas!!!
Safe chav... im not a zetec fan either really which is why im asking soooo many bloody questions...lol..
Me.. im a cvh boy....
white mk3 xr3i turbo'd.. absolutly luv oldskools!!
And u kno that its all about the mk3 scorts!!
