For the time it takes on a pinto, fit a belt and see what happens.

As GVK, can almost guarantee no damage, especially as idling at the time.
I may be wrong but thought these were a "safe" engine anyway.
Worst count is ONE bent valve!!

i put new belt on and it fired first time but only seemed 2 b on 3 cylinders so turned it off cleaned all the plugs and now it wont start. does this sound like a bent valve and if so would it b expensive 2 fix. seemed strange how it started first time though

Check again that belt is right, then if it is do a compy test as this is quickest way to see if there is a bent valve problem, I would be very suprised though, I have only ever seen one on a pinto due to belt snap, but that was at 8,700rpm, on a race car.

Depends on the type of Pinto engine, some can get damaged, some not. Think all the 2.0 had the potential to get damaged.

Hi All,

Yes information i have is if 1.6, it is interference engine and you will likely
have at least valve damage,
But if 2.0, is free wheeling engine and not likely to have damage, but do a precautionary compression test,
