Default P8 anomolie

here is a wierd one. on my big tubo escos,

is there any apparent reason why this might happen other than a faulty ecu?

disarm the alarm, put keys in and turn to click 2, no fuel pump running and no ISCV click. turn back to off and back to click 2 and away it goes.

if i try to start it on the first attemp it wont go - it will crank but with no fuel pump running so it dont start.

now ive replaced the fusebox, those manky feeds from the battery, donme away with the multiplugs under the bonnet behind the headlight, new ignition switch , new ingition and fuel pump relays and earthed the ecu case and run extra earth from the battery to the engine and body.

this isn't really a problem as it does this EVERY time i start it (hot or cold)and ALWAYS starts after turnoing the ignition off and back on.

i've even had a multimeter from the live feeds form the fusebox through theignoition swicth etc, and there is 12.5 volts there on each occasion, and as the circuit is completed by the ecu switching the ground connection, im led to think that it must be the ecu at fault.

anyone know what could cause this internal to the P8 as it is replcatable 10 times out of 10.

it will thwart anyone trying to hotwire it at least

did you find the reason why - coul it be the chip , or is it the actual ecu?

it used to do this a random times (before i did away with the underbonnet multiplugs) but now its as above...

Try a new chip.
I recall the P8 having a problem like this with early software and it was fixed with a software flash to 18106.

i could try the old well lane pahse 0 chip back in - to prove a point, but the date on the AB chip/pecterl board is 2002 - one from woodford, so you'd expect other peoiple to have similar problems - could do with trying a L8 off someone just to plug in to 100% prove that it is now not the car wiring and is actually the ecu.

ps, can it be reflashed with the new software additionally, of is all the operating systema dn map contained on the chip/board.?

so far mine is "stable", like you say, as long as if doesn't cause any other problems, you can live with it - i'm wondering whether the cruddy wiring under the bonnet has caused so damage by sorting/arking together before i did away with them - has your been de-multiplugged?

Funny that, I’ve experienced the same problem with my Escort Cossie P8. I installed a new high-pressure fuel pump, and upgraded the chip at the same time. Had the same problem, and thought I had made an incorrect connection in the fuel pump. But I changed the chip back to my old one, and works fine. So this looks like it’s a chip fault. Will be contacting the chipmaker to discuss. Good post.

just noticed that from the pics i took when i fitted it - there are (what look like) earth points on each corner of the board, i siliconed the board in place rather than drill holes inthe casing. does the board have to ge grounded at each corner to the casing by screwing it t the case of the ecu..... here is a pic.... ive oblitorated the name of the chip, you can still see the infor, though.

3BP8FR (3 bar, P8 ecu, ?????)
803 (803 injecotrs)
8-10-02 (date burnt to chip)

what is he significance of the FR at th end...?
