hey peeps just wondering if any1 can help me out...

i got a mk4 xr3i cab(EFi), and after 2 days the gearbox gave up on me. I changed it, and a couple of weeks later i saw my battery light on the instrument panel glowing very dimly on the instrument panel. it got dimmer and brighter as i accelerated/braked, but never shone fully. then my battery started going flat, and sometimes when it came to starting it, it would just make a loud 'click' noise. 2 ways of starting it were 1) pouring some water on starter motor (why would this suddenly make it work?!?!?!?) or 2) connecting a power pack to the battery (sometimes the water worked, others the power pack worked). i often had to charge my battery overnight, which temporeraly solved the problem, until the next day. i was told it was the alternator, got 1 from scrappy, now does the clicking noise everytime and will not start (unless push-started). also, when driving the battery light is on full wack, and it flickers a bit.

any ideas???????

also whilst im here, i used to own an xr2 and had the randomly clicking problem, could start it by pouring water on starter motor... now my sister has it and it is still doing it??? could be related to above???

did you put your earth lead on the gear box ok not on any dirt or corrsion also the chargeing wire is next to the starter there is a cornector there make sure its not corrided inside all so check all leads at starter
