Default Electronic boost controllers

Gentlemen, ladies, my question is regarding Blitz/HKS/greddy electronic boost controllers.

I've got a 4x4 cossie with around 330bhp (yet to be confirmed) but i want a funky japenese style boost controler rather than a typical boring bleed valves thats already fitted to my car. Who out there uses one of these devices, are they any good, wheres the best place to get one.

I not looking at getting one soon as i have other work to do on the car first, but its something i'm looking at for the future. By the way the car runs around 1.6 to 1.8 bar of boost, i've turned it down to just over 1 bar as i'm not sure of the health of the enigne, i've only had the car for around two months.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

the std amal valve with an uprated actuator (-31 or -34) will be fine and will offer protection against overboost when the ecu senses a fault with the engine. they look good the apexi avcr things but are a just bit of jap crap really

but i like the fact they look good, i'm a bit of a gizmo freak. I know certain ones allow tailor control over the boost, differant settings for differant scenarios. Plus i like gizmos.

I've decided, i'm gonna waste the money i make selling the oversized brakes off of my old car on a funky electronic boost controller. It just looks so cool.

Thanks for the reply, even though i paid no attention, thanks anyway,

if u were to go with the apexi avcr u can tailor boost for rpm through the revs
they have hi low settings to save being on full boost everywhere and still look cool

The apexi AVC type R has caught my interest but i'm not sure about the spec on it yet. I found it in whifbitz.com for £380. Is this a good price?

apex avc-r works perfectly well with cosworth management but you will not get full features without running a speed sensor of some description.

What do you mean by a speed sensor? Would this be as simple as a magnet on a CV joint with transducer linked up to the boost controller?

You could probably get a gearbox speed sensor from a jap car and adapt it to fit onto your speedo cable(or whereever?) then this will give a signal to the avc-r. this is only needed for gear prediction for gear to gear boost control. also can give you a nice digital display of speed to revs/throttle pos/boost/solendoid duty/injector duty. if you like. DP motorsport are very good with these controllers and you can also download the documentation from here http://www.apexi-usa.com/documentation.asp

Probably will work I think Chrissie???? (Ragtop from here) worked out the signal once form a ford type speed sensor, my old EEC-IV OFAC one for the Fiesta Turbo worked but didnt give the correct speed, this didn't matter for boost control issues but meant the speed display was never correct i.e I would be doing 30 mph on speedo and AVC-R would say 60mph for example as signal generated from sensor was wrong frequency to waswas settable on avc-r

Hey peeps. Thanks for the info. Probably won't be getting one for a while. Want to get the car set up on the rollers next month first then i'll think about it. Its a choice between an avc-r or a quickshift.

Thanks again
