ive figured out that one goes to the ignition module and one to the instrument cluster, which one is it that goes through this black box?

is there anyway of checking the distributor, i guess if i check that theres a spark coming out of the coil using a 240volt screwdriver (live tester) then that will tell me if its the coil/ wiring side of things or the dizzy.

sorry mate i get it no just connect one of the two one side then the other to the other side of it. this is how they normally are is the black box sits next to the coil doesn't it

theres 2 green wires coming from the coil, one of them passes through the supressor thing, is it the green wire going to the ignition module or the one going to the instrument cluster?

the green wire normally goes to the rev counter mate. you wont be able o test the coil with a 240v tester you will meed a multi meter to test it no not realy normally just change it make sure none of the wires are broken in the dizzy as the tend to break

my mate has a multi meter so i'll borrow that off him and test it, should output wire from the coil and put the multimeter tester in there? also when the ignition is on there is power at both pins on the coil (the one the black wire goes to and the one the green wire goes too) is this correct?

do you habe the correct coil fitted. have a look in the dizzy and kust check the wires mate, also put the multi meter on ohm's and test to see if your getting any reading from the pins in the dizzy

I'd be very surprised if you see an output from the coil on a digital multimeter........and being as its a hall effect sensor you won't see a resistance value anyway.
If you want to check your dizzy is working listen for the fuel pump running when you crank the engine over, if the pump doesnt run its a 99.9% give away the dizzy is gone.

the fuel pump runs fine, it primes when i turn the ignition on then pumps when im cranking the engine. does this mean the problem isnt the dizzy and is more likely to be the coil or ignition module?
