Default 4X4 SAPHIRE MISFIRE

HELLO IM NEW TO THIS BUT IT WAS RECOMENDED BY A MATE, AND SAID ITS QUITE HELPFUL
IM NOT SURE HOW THIS IS DONE BUT HERE WE GO

I OWN A 4X4 SAPHIRE COSWORTH WHICH IS RUNNING A STAGE 2 CONVERSION
IVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WHERE THE REV COUNTER FLUCTUATES WHILST DRIVING WHICH CAUSES A JERK WHEN THE BOOST COMES IN
I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE GARAGE WHERE PEOPLE WHO DONE THE CONVERSION ON IT. FIRST OF ALL THE HT LEADS WERE REPLACED, GROUP A IGNITION COIL, . THE COSY WAS RUNNING GOOD BUT 5-6 MONTHS TIME THE SAME PROBLEM HAS COME BACK. TAKEN IT BACK TO GARAGE AND THIS TIME THE IGNITION AMPLIFIER HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. COSY RUNNING GOOD. 5-6 MONTHS ITS SAME HAS BEFORE.
HAS ANYONE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM?

Mine was missing when I got it, new cap and rotor arm and problem sorted. Same problem under 1 year later and it turned out it had eaten the cap and rotor again... looks like it will be something that needs replacing every service lol

Mine has got the grp a coil aswell, dont know if that has anything to do with it.

The rev counter went haywire a while back too but that seems to have sorted itself out?

Possible phase sensor and make sure it's a genuine cap and arm.

Assuming the cap/rotor/leads and plugs are OK and gapped properly (try 0.6mm if they are appreciably bigger.. what plugs are you using?) then look into poor/intermittent connections:

1, check all connections to coil and ignition amplifier.
2, Check the condition of the three loom connectors on the bulkhead behind the engine, just above the cam cover.
3, Check/clean the loom earth tag connections on the inlet plenum cover - there are two earth tags with brown wires fitted under a couple of plenum chamber cover bolts, they must be clean and secure.

The tacho fluctuation (reading increases above where it should be, yeah?) is caused by interference getting onto the ignition amplifier trigger signal wire(s) - this is usually caused by poor condition HT components or bad earth connections to the ignition amplifer and associated loom.

Hope this helps.

tacho fluctuation Pete?
Can only imagine it was HT generated interference due to bad burns or something..??

This is what it will be
mine had same problem and it was the loom connectors

Just an idea but if your disributor was spinning slightly off center would this possibly cause early dizzy cap and rotor arm failure?

Are they genuine leads that were put back on the car?
