Posting this for my dad...

He has got a 03 plate Focus estate which as developed a strange problem...

Basically his speedo, rev counter, fuel gauge, temp gauge & mileage thingy have decided they dont want to work....Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. For example he could start it up and they will be working then whilst going down the street they will stop working and vice versa.....

All the lights on the dash work, such as the little light that comes on if you put the handbrake on or the light that comes on when you open a door....but the gauges dont

Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be

Any help would be much appreciated...

have yo tested the gauges to see if they work turn on the ignition then off then hold the mileage reset button for 15 second then turn the igntion on whilst holding the button still then the gauges should go into test mode

 

not good news, ive got a 52plate st170 and have the same problem, took it to ford, and they said its not the sort of thing that can be repaired and you need a new instrument cluster, thatll be Ł478.92 for a new one, that price includes fitting though. hope your dad is sitting down when you tell him

I thought it may be a case of buying a new cluster My dad did ring Ford up and they said a new cluster would be Ł170....

if you keep pressing it you can scan throught all the functions on the dash can also get up a eltronic speedo read charge rate compression ratio of engine there is alsort of info it is used for basic diagnosis. just try it when they are not working and working.
