Ahhh i see

Are you thinking of the idle speed control valve (ISCV)?

Although it was only early 2i's that had the ISCV on the airbox, all the later ones ar mounted in the same place as yours is on the inlet manifold.

If we're still not talking about the same things circle it in the picture

Ah ok

Breather pipe

On a standard air box the pipe would enter the airbox and the oil fumes are burnt in the engine.

Because you have a cone filter i expect there is no where for it to re-circulate into. Its fine like it is, the only down side with it being you MIGHT notice some fumes in the car when in traffic etc

Oh fucking hell what a nob i am

Well, it would seem that does look like an amal valve (i didn't know they were mounted there from the factory )

Anyway, FRST's only have a 2 connection amal valve, so one side goes to the compressor housing, and the other to the actuator

(PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE tell me you haven't been driving it with a pipe off )

lol no i stripped it for a resto but cutting it short and kinda forgot where the pipe goes. the thing is though the a previous owner somewhere along the line fitted a death valve, sorry bleed valve just before the amal valve and the way the pipes are the one from the turbo and actuator are together on a t-piece so nowhere to put the second hose

I'm not sure if i want that to make sense i might be a bit too horrified at what i read

I presume you are removing the death valve? Have a look on the amal valve pipes to see if there are any letters such as "w" and "c"

If thats the labels you have then yes

Even if they are different its usually easy to work it out, a bit of common sense

On the FRST one pipe from the amal valve goes down to a t piece to the actuator/compressor housing and the other to the air box or in the OP's case the connection just below the filter.

It doesn't matter if the pipe isn't connected it will just vent to atmosphere instead of into the intake, I have mine like that on the EFi Escort.

If you look on the side of your shiney new Samco hose there is a little pipe for you to connect the amal valve to.

Sorry , no sarcasm intended I just find it frustrating that people reply to problems with no definative answers.
As you can see I don't post for the star ratings which some people do on here, I only reply with answers I'm definately sure on-not maybe this & maybe that.

best of luck
