rs turbo not starting and idling
been round my s1 everyday use car and it stopped starting now.
When i try and flick the key and fire it up it runs for like 2 seconds and stalls. Checked for air leaks everywhere and all is well. took the K&n indcution kit off and prssed air flow meter flap down and it keeps chugging and turning over.
If u then leave it for a few mins and try and start it on the flick of a key it runs for s plit 2 sec again but then cuts out.
When u flick the key and u hear it just about to start run, if u press the accelerator down for more gas, it just cuts out again
any idea peeps?

i haven't checked the dizzy as i thought its obviouslly working hence the split second startup.
I was thinking along the lines of the air flow meter itself, whatcha think?
how is the air flow meter supposed to work exactly this way i can see what mine does.
at the mo it just bounces about abit but doesn't go further down.
if my bro turns it over and i try to push the flap down a little bit aswell it just splutters and stalls.
cheers

my car done that when the fuel pump stopped working.
when you turn the ignition on can you hear the pump go. it should buzz for a second or 2. then when you try to start it it should start buzzing again. hope this helps

the silver fuel pump relay works fine and is new, the pump works fine is new aswell.
when i'm turning it over u can hear the pump buzzing pushing fuel through or trying to.
What would the symptoms be of a knackered air flow meter? when u crank the car over whats the air flow meter flap supposed to do originally from factory design?
cheeRS, keep the comments etc coming guys

it does sound like a fuel problem to me. check the fiter isn't blocked. the metering head on a turbo works by incresing the fueling dependant on how far down the plunger / plate thing that sits under air filter...... unfortunately its not that simple cos there is also an electrical pulses that are sent to it controlled by the ecu! try checking the electrical connections to it?
or failing that try running a permenant live from the battery to to the fuel pump Which is underneath the back of the car.
hope this helps

so basiclly as i'm pressing down on the accelerator and the cars trying to start it spluttering due to lack of fuel?
i suppose i could keep cranking it over and take pipe off and see if fuel being pumped up to the air flow meter itself
is there anyway of doing and electrical power reading on the pump to confirm the pump is working. As i once told with some famous words,
"even new items can be faulty, lol"
