Default car tried to kill itself tonight...

I'm having no luck whatsoever with this ....... car...

came home from work today, stopped at shop.. got shopping walked out and my heart broke... water pishing from the bottom of my car.

I was literally just round the corner so i got in and told her if she got us home i promise to fix whatever it is.

I thought at first I had blown the waterpump cos when i opened the bonnet the water was everywhere. I got under the car to find water dripping all the way down from the top of the engine bay, over the alternator belt, all through the alternator (its totally drenched) and finally dripping to the ground.

in the top if the engine its covered all the wires and multiplugs in the drivers side of the engine bay. I had a poke about but couldnt see anything... my partner came home and by this time it had cooled off a bit so he stuck his hands in and about the pipes...

the alternator belt / (drive belt) has cut through my radiator hose.

I feel like crying really i do, I've just got her running right.

the cut is at the top of the hose, but even now after 5 hours sitting, water is still dripping from under the car. I havent moved her and have no intention of doing so. My partner says we can patch it up but i dont feel happy about this.

has anyone else had this happen? I'm sure my car is actually trying to kill itself. would patching it be a good idea or should i just get the hose changed... also will the belt and pullys needs replaced?

I had exactly the same thing happen to me, one of the clips holding a hose broke and it slipped onto the drive belt. Ended up having to get a new hose and belt as it had totally freyed it. Cost me about Ł40 altogether so it weren't too bad. I've made sure that hose wont be slipping out again with a nice cable tie.

Hope it turns out ok for you

crossing fingers. Thankfully I was close to home when i saw it and I kept an eye on the temp guage up the hill to make sure i didnt kill her completely.

well just an update and you would be proud of me guys!

I walked a mile to the local car place and got some hose tape, walked back rolled up my sleeves, pulled out the water bottle and the power steering fluid bottle.

cut my wrists to shreds trying to clean the hose up, then managed to wrap the hose with amalgamating tape, then a layer of fabric tape, then another layer of amalgamating tape then the last layer of fabric tape. bottles back....

then started her up and poured the water in, let it sink then poured again and so on until she sat right. checked under it and no leak.

got a text to say the garage had managed to get me a bottle and hose from the local scrappy so it was swarfega on the hands, a prayer and off to the garage with the heaters on full to make sure she didnt suddenly blow cold air at me and a huge bottle of water in the back seat!

got her there without a problem and everything is now fixed (crossed fingers).

new tyres fitted 2 days ago, just need to get the tracking done then a full service and the rear fuel filter replaced and i hope to hell this is all the problems sorted...

to anme a few things I've done / had done... rocker cover gasket, lower arms and bushes, idle control valve, MAF sensor, lamda sensor, new tyres, new hose and bottle, tyres and just left to do tracking and the service and shes going in to have the exhaust welded next week as the join in the pipes is leaking.

shes going 100 times better now that she ever did, and shes got 97bhp yeay! LOL

don't give up on it its always hard dealing with the teething problems of a new car but once its sorted you can rest assured knowing you've put everything right.

How do you think i used to feel when my cabby would take 5 mins solid cranking over to start on the petrol station forecourt, then when it did start the alternator belt would squeal and everyone is walking past with look on their face as if to say "look at that old banger that won't start"

Its worth it in the end

I know... I'd never get rid of her cos I love her to bits.. just a long slog so far.

not to mention the fact I'm learning a lot about the car from this kinda stuff.
