Default numberplate stickers

hi, i no this is a weird question to ask but
i was just wondering what the best way of removing numberplate
stickers? as i went to change my numberplates today and there is loads of sticky pads under the old plates and it looks rubbish.

Turps should get the glue off easily, if you let it soak for a while.

Should not halm the paint either but try a bit somewhere first.
