Default Stud and nut kit / WRC gasket question

I have a stud and nut kit fitted in my Escort Cossie. The stud is torqued down to 15 lb/ft into the block, and then the nut is torqued down to 75 ft/lb. The question is, could the stud come loose in the block when undoing the nuts to remove the head? (Because some of mine were loose when I took the head off, and I didn't put the studs in.)

The other question is, can you reuse a WRC 4 layer gasket? Mines only been on for about 10 miles, and I had to lift the head to inspect the interior, after a recent rebuild. It’s a bit expensive to bin, and buy another one at £325 at gasket.

Thoughts?

Thanks
John

Hi,

I reused one head gasket with head off after 120 km, without problem at all.
(Sapphire, standard gasket)

Regards.

Which head studs do you have the long ones or the arp kit?

I have the GGR stud and nut kit. The stud is about 4 inches long and bolts into the block. The thread in the block has been bottom tapped to allow the stud to sit on the bottom. There's usually a slight inward taper on the thread in the block for the standard head bolts.

Clean the thread and apply torque seal on the thread apply silicon sealer on the rubber washers and torque them 25 lbs ft. Apply oil under the washer and nut and torque the head 80 lbs ft.

I thought you have the long studs,ie you have only 4 or 6 the rest are std bolts ,and do not have thread on the face but the stud go down in the water jacket between the sleeves. Is that right? These should have a rubber o ring in the middle to prevent water coming up the stud and leak from under the nut.
The other type are the ARP studs (short),these are screwed instead the original bolts so you have the threads in the face of the block.

sounds like you got ARP style blots so no rubber washers needed,
and yes it is possible or the studs to come lose when you undo the nut.
As for using the gasket again its personal preference really
i probably would BUT a lot of people would'nt
up to you really if you worried then get a new one
