xr2i Thermostat Help
Hey there...
I've recentally brought an XR2i 8v......
Everything was running fine for the first few days..... Then took it out the next day, Everything was running fine until i parked it on my drive then the smoke started to come from the engine....
I looked under the bonnet to fine that my oil was fine but my coolant levels had dropped alot ... i looked over the engine then i found the problem ...
I seem to have a hole in my theromostat ...... And alot of the coolant seems tobe pooring out of it ...
I have had a friend look at it and my other half and it seems to be that either a plug or something has come out and it also seems to us that there is a valve .....
Can anyone please help me ....

lol, dont be embarased. I did that cos i could see some white staining in the green circle, thought maybe it was cracked.
OK, that should have a very tiny core plug in it, i duno if you will find one that small of if its even worth doing, you can just as easily put a new housing on, 3 x 10mm bolts. However you do run the risk of them snapping which they like to do.....

No problem.
Just looking at that picture again, it looks like the core plug is still in there, but they are galvanized steel so they are always the weak part (the housing itself is cast aluminium)
Another housing will probably be the best way, although i would out a new thermostat in aswell while its off as they are notoriously crap on CVH's. Halfords, about Ł3.49
