Dust covers do you mean the gators that cover the rose/ball joints
As long as there is no play they are not an mot failure but if its more hasle than good you should be able to obtain them from a motor factors m8

the only other way i can think of, other than whats been said is you will have to buy two new rose joints, and normally you get dust caps with them.

only thing we can think of is getting on of somwhething else the same size :S maybe track rod end as they also have a cover ?

As Martini says, split boot shouldn't be MOT failure, provided there is no play in the joints..

But... obviously better to fix it.. - only thing I can suggest is buy the cheapest track rod ends or replacement balljoints that you can find, from any car that gives you suitably sized boots to rob, and fit on your joints.

Similar problem with Sapph track control arms - when the boot splits you have to replace the arm at £50.. so i've just got a cheap ball joint and robbed the boot and chucked the rest away..
