hi folks can anyone help my erst is idiling up and down the revs wont settle its fine when driving is it the idle control valve sometimes in the morning it can be difficult to start also

 

happens with my escort zetec, revs up and down erratically when im driving along, and every time i change gear and dip the clutch the engine revs. even when i brake as i change down, i can feel the engine trying to accelerate

 

ERST's are so tempermental. Could be many things, the starting problem in the morning is quite common when the cold start valve is connected, 99.9% of them start perfectly with the valve disconnected. Idling problem, could be an air leak or anything, theres a lot of external parts which can allow air leaks and have detrimental affects on the running of the engine.

first thing i'd do is look for air leaks, and shoot carb cleaner thru it. It's amazin how many peoples cars have running/idling problems, and they've simply got components covered in filthy breather fumes and general grime. A blast with carb cleaner and most cars i work on are 100% better running. More satisfying to drive when your car's runnin right.
