Escort Cosworth, standard suspension setup, lowered 25mm, brand new tyres all round 1200miles ago, now the fronts are almost bald inside!!

Any ideas?

tracking should be 0 deg , ie running parrallel and in line with the backs. when you lower it though, it will ajust this and will need re tracking.

tracking may be out, but more than likely be the fact that you have lowered the car 25mm, as this will give you more negative camber, which is ideal for cornering but a pain in the arse for tyre wear cause it will make the top of the wheel sit further in, which means it is wearing more on the inside edge, hence the baldness mate , ask for it to be tracked up again to check the front camber angles, plus your front toe angles aswell.

You can remedy this problem if you want by speaking to someone like Zoo Motorsport, as they can supply you with eccentric top mounts or adjustable lower arms, which would allow you to set it up the camber angles properly, although they could possibly advise you on a cheaper option as the other gear is quite expensive mate.
Give them a bell, and see what they say mate!!!

cheers mate, good info, I noticed the camber after it was lowered.

Would have preffered it not to have been lowered, waiting for Castle Performance Engineering to get some std springs in to replace them as they fitted them in the first place................ fookin long wait, it's been about 8 months now!

Have you still got std Ford front bushes? New front poly bushes will make a big difference if so.

Mine's slightly lowered, but I get far, far more than 1200miles out of the front's!! Poly front bushes & Koni's, and I had it all tracked up after fitting the suspension/bushes. Unfortunately, without something trick like the Zoo setup, some inside wear is likely (as per most Fords, lol) - to set the fronts up to combat this without anything 'trick' will give poorer turn in/handling, and what's the point in a performance car that drives like that ....

Might be worth giving Zoo a call, they have a fair bit of experience with suspension/handling set ups, could probably source you some springs to your needs too.

www.zoomotorsport.co.uk for contact details if needed, hope you sort it
