Colour code I used for mine was Fiat 312 b aero basecoat

 

 

If you have a 02 sensor then it's green if you have not it's blue.
And to add early 4x4's was red.....

escorts are all blue.

So my thoughts it should be green being on a K plate.

But I like blue better.

 

 

I would not worry about what other people think or say.
If you like blue then blue it should be.

I have a nice blue I picked.

 

 

 

I have used many over the years that blue one was painted in 2k.
one that's on my car was painted about 9 years ago with Halfords Rosso red.
You need it fully decreased and keyed up or gently blasted.
I have NEVER used primers.

 

 

Only the rosso red one.
But any normal Halfords paint will be fine.
mask up the raised area prior to blasting and do it at low pressure just to key the surface.

Then mask the raised areas this saves time flatting the paint back to bare alloy. You can do the lettering with a brush just spray the paint into the lid.

 

Mine done just a few months ago.....J plate 4x4

powder coated then polished.

Just check there's enough material left on the top to be machined back again.

I had one that had no depth so was just painted and left all one colour.

 

 

Thats how mine started of, but when it was done like that it was the in thing. Not my cuppa tea but i do appreciate other people's for the work, time and effort to achieve it.

 

Why were there blue, red and green ones?

Everyone has different tastes as to how they want their engine bay to look, the standard look has never been to my liking and I prefer the shiny look. Anyone that would make a big fuss about you not having the "correct" colour rocker cover would not bother me one bit. My engine bay which suits me fine!

 

 

 

Not sure what paint mine has on it but 22 years after it was done it still looks good!

 

 

Trick is to only blast the top. At work we use glass beads to do a lot of alloy parts but again only the outside.
Vapour blasting is good but not many people do it so you either have to post or travel which is a pain.

Another way I have stripped one is with paint stripper and a brass brush which can make a mess.

That blue is a little darker than mine.

 

 

 

 

Taking into account light, camera etc etc it looks good....remember though once it's flatted back and you have the contrast of the shiney bits it will change how it looks. (The eyes are a funny thing!!)

I've lacquered and not, with mixed results....my best attempt wasn't lacquered.

 

 

I have never used clear coat.

 

The paint is now completely dry and cured, are you going to polish it to a high gloss finish or leave it as a matt finish? I prefer the rocker cover shiny myself.
