Default Cars in Jersey

Just come back from a very nice 5 day break in Jersey. There are 3 speed limits in force on the Island, 20mph, 30mph and 40mph which is the maximum.
On the first day there i saw every type of supercar that you can think of which made me smile as they must be driving around in second or third gear all the time!! I wonder if they have 0 to 40mph drag races with them?
Did also see some very desirable low mileage original condition classic Fords in one of the museums there.

Mark 1 Escort Mexico.

Mark 1 Cortina GT Anglia 105E

Most supercar owners are just bloody posers who have no intention of driving it properly, they just rev the tits off it in busy traffic while wearing shades and a massive V in their t shirts

All the ones we saw had Jersey number plates so they must live there. They are for posing as you could never open them up on the small roads over there. There must be a lot of wealthy people living there who dont think spending Ł120,000 plus on a status symbol that you can only drive at 40mph is a lot.
No speed cameras there either and we didnt see any Police cars or bikes all the time we were there.I have to say everyone seemed to stick to the speed limits so I guess if you live there you just get used to driving slowly!!
I bet the owners of some of the fast cars must love it when they come to England,France or Germany where they can blow the cobwebs out of them!!

I respect the super car owners who use their car on track like it's designed too.

What was the weather like in Jersey mate looks a nice part of the world?

The weather was pretty good, Jersey is a great Island with plenty of things to see and do.The roads are narrow and there is quite a lot of traffic now compared to years back. There are 110,000 people on Jersey and 146,000 cars!

It just seemed that driving around in cars that are designed to be driven fast with a maximum speed limit of 40 mph on Jersey cant really be because the owners are true petrol heads? How could you ever get the enjoyment and thrill out of a supercar when you can never use its power?

Same on the Isle of wight, I used to go quite regularly and would never fail to spot a cossie, load of other nice stuff there too, with Isle of Wight registration prefix so were born there.

unfortunately the islands are nothing like they were, they are very very over crowded and a very expensive to live and now they have been overrun with johnny foreigner [immigrants] who seem to think they have a god dam right to be here. i come from guernsey and we are becoming like jersey sadly, we are 65000 with 80000 cars and lots of rich people, tax dodgers. and dodgey money. we used to go to are sister island in the 70s for holidays but i have not been for about 35 years now and have no desire to.there are thousands of rare and classic cars hidden away on this island you would be amazed, one guy just payed 275000 grand for the reg plate 007 to go on his aston martin.

If you applied your logic then nothing sporty would live on Jersey, anyhow its only a boat ride from Europe...

I know its only a ferry trip to France or England but in the real world how often are you going to do that? Most of the time you are still going to be driving around at 40mph or less and you cannot tell me that would not be frustrating in a car capable of 180 to 200mph!

Personally I'd do exactly that! I've done about 11k miles in my car so far, about 6k of which was done the other side of the channel. Yes it would be annoying but there are quite a few powerful Cosworths on Jersey so what you're saying applies to those and all the other fast stuff too, what would you buy a Micra?? And what about all the big brake kits I've sent there? No need for those either!

Certainly no need for the big brake kits if you only drive in Jersey, stopping from 40mph shouldnt be a problem but I guess some people who have powerful cars must do fairly regular trips to France or England where you can use the power properly. If you only drive in Jersey all the time there would be no point in owning a fast car which is why there are so many small cars over there including lots of Micras!

I used to see loads of Jersey reg cars on UK track days...they are allowed off Jersey. So whilst the speed limits max at 40...ours are only 60 on NSL with no dual carriage way and I am sure some of us have exceeded the posted limit from time to time.

My friends step dad left him a C55 AMG merc which was kept in Jersey...he too thought it a bit odd.

I love a Supercar and tip my hat to anyone who can afford one...good on them. My mate has over 10 in his collection and I know people with 40 plus. My mate with 10 says he feels that he has to lie to people who ask him what he owns / drives as he doesn't want to upset anyone...get any grief...daft!

It doesn't matter about the speed limit! People buy what they want and aren't boring like some people!

When we were there it said on the local TV news that the Police are cracking down on people speeding, so I guess the 40mph limit does piss a lot of car owners off.
