Have your say on the way PassionFord runs in 2011
On key matters, such as mr rs specialist being a mod, would it be possible to have a full and frank discussion/debate as to why he should stay/go as a mod? With the for/against arguement put by both factions as to why they think it should be their way?
I'm only taking this as an example due to so much negativity on te subject that has been shown here bybsome even though the basics of him being a good mod seem to be ignored by some.
If there is an "issue" that the membership can generally debate and have some sort of clarifcatjon by an indipendant as to what would be the best way forward it may at least give users the ability to air any past greviances they wish to clear on said matters.
And the resluts could be made by someone with their reasons as to why the end decision was made in the way it was made.
So, for example, we all moaned that we wanted a split gd for car and non car subjects andnthen it went to the vote and it was voted against so it became reintergrated, and the obvious end was that those who wanted it kept seperate were then much more vocal about it's demise thatn those who had "won". But as a general rule, a big discussion before it was implimented with something like a 6 month trial period say before the matter was reconsidered again may have ended up with a permanent split.

Serious question then Pete, will keep it short as its obviously something you dont seem very keen to go into depth about:
But would I be allowed to have "Chip - Turbo Specialist" as a username for example if I sold turbos (I dont do so for profit currently but may do one day) but wasnt a trader on here?
Or could say steveboyslim who isnt a trader on here but I know he supplies people with lots of parts for performance engines as a trader away from here have "parts supply specialist" as his username?
As I always thought that things which so strongly hinted at a commerical interest would not be allowed even if they didnt contain your company name explicitly.

Rs specialist is very unfriendly and sarcastic to be fair and before you pipe up and say anything "pete" this isn't sour grapes i have noticed it in your posts and replies in general!! the others all seem ok to be fair, and this thing with taking the piss out of people's spelling is very sad imo and the pisstaking and being a general dick should be confined to one room or else they get infractions, banned etc also something needs to be done about the amount of people getting ripped off like you should have to have a certain amount of posts(250-500) and be a goldmember as u have to now before you can sell anything. and if you want to sell a car be it yours or immediate family then you should be allowed to do so for a small fee like Ł5 per car all just my opinions though
Not read the whole thread.
Everyone has not moved on, they are still thousands of Ford, cossie owners on here but they just don't post any more because the twat's like dave, lambchop and others taking the piss etc
The only reason they want dave back is so he can take the piss out of some more innocent people, because they find it funny.
people come on here to find out about cars they might not have a clue about like many on here years ago but all they get is the piss taken out of them
they should just keep it in the muppet room and if they post it anywhere else they should get a infraction

There is one name chip that does car derived business that doesn't advertise the fact here that I could most certainly name, possibly 2, and more than likely plenty of others. The key point seems to be that certain individuals DO trade outside of pf but because they don't publicise the facts here they are seen to be getting away with it.
No one wants to open up the huge can of worms that is going to get opened up if some of these names gets mentioned, so I won't mention them, but you could probably name 3 of them if I gave you 3 guesses.

I find it quite ironic that you ask for our opinions then ignore most of them because you dont agree with them.
Plenty of people including myself, have had the balls to tell you what needs changing...why not listen for a change please !

Thats all this thread is, and suggestions im sure have been considered and in most cases ignored, that is the norm as when you do these sort of exercises though, its a case of seperating the wheat from the chaff and deciding what is worth actioning or not. Often the people in charge (stu in this case) will know more about the overall picture than the people making suggestions so will be in a position to legitatemly dismiss many of the suggestions as unworkable or be aware that there will be a downside the user hasnt seen which cancel out any benefits.
I dont think that you keep stamping your feet will effect that process much TBH mate!

repeating yourself a few times, i can live with that
but sounding like a broken record, even those who agree with you will get pissed off because you won't accept that some things won't change
on the other hand, if you gather support and form your own little clique, you've got a certain bandwagon on which everyone can jump to

for what it's worth, stu's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't, if he does people will see it as a potential weakness that stamping your feet gets resluts, if he doesn't then he's too stuck in his ways to change
draconion punishments will be handed out from what has been hinted at as some of the wording, although probably carefully worded and cleared by the official pf lawyers, seems to be remarkably similar to what our dear vince cable said to some saucy tarts he was trying to impress with his agenda that he wanted certain individuals never to get what they were after
if you have certain members you feel are causing problems, then you should be singeling them out and sending them nice reminders that they are treading on some influential toes and to behave or get gone, not change the whole way the site is run in order to keep within the rules of "fairness", after all, it's a business now
"Speicalist R.S" speicalist rifle shooter a good name seeing shooting is my hobby, hopefully Simon and few other will be happy now,as the mod and admin team do "aim" to please

My two pence...
There needs to be far more active moderation with infractions handed out for abusive posting, members should not be able to call each other "fucking cunts" for example, it makes for a very unfriendly atmosphere certainly for new users and it is completely unnecessary, there is no need to insult each other so why is it allowed?
There are also far too many threads that just turn into big arguments/slagging matches, I dont really know how you can stop that (aside from infractions for abusive posting as above), but it makes it difficult to have a 'nice' read through the forum when every thread turns to crap!
I spend most of my time in the RST room and TBH it's pretty good in there with most people trying to help each other out, but whenever I look into GD there is always some epic thread going on with people going crazy at each other.
As far as trading goes, I think that a 'one rule for all' should be in place, so your Ł10 a year fee allows you to buy and sell as much as you like whether you are a fully fledged business or a bedroom trader. It's all for the good of the community/members!

Stu, as I know you always like people to back up any comments with a clear example that you can refer to, here is one on topic with the comments earlier in the thread about moderator consistancy which seems particuarly relevant as it is something that has just happened.
https://passionford.com/forum/passio...ed-please.html
THAT is the big problem with passionford moderation IMHO, its not the rules, its the fact that it is totally and utterly at random how they enforced with soemtimes it appears to be done like this with utterly no application of any inteligence or reasoning at all.
Now Markyd3 has kindly said that he will look into it, so hopefully the outcome will be some sort of fair one in the end (I have a lot of faith in marky, he like myself, genuinely seems to want to make PF a better place), so this post is NOT to discuss what actually happened (there is already an appropriate thread for that which I have linked to), Im only referring to it by way of an example.
If moderators could refrain from wading in with their size 10s on in the first place to such an extent as Tony did then it will mean that two things happen IMHO:
a) Users wont feel that mods are inconsistant and unfair
b) large amounts of extra work for the already busy mod team wont be created
No one ever respects any form of authority if it is inconsistant.
So my suggestions is that mods should think before they act, especially when the actions are to adminster a fairly severe punishment.
Perhaps before infaction points are applied there could be some sort of process where they are seconded by another mod, or where a discussion is had with the user.
I know that will be an increase in admin overhead in itself, but I believe that it will save far more time than it costs.
TRANSPARENCY IS THE KEY TO FAIRNESS!

Chip, I am seriously shocked you got infracted for that given that Pete commented after about it and knew it was banter !
Even more shocked that you got 5 points for it !!!!!
100% agree with your sentiments though

Its fine to have rules, but they should be applied fairly and with some thought.
It will improve relations between members and mods if this sort of thing can stop happening, and it will probably cut down on moderator time required as well.
Stu, in the context of the fact that you always ask people for example when they mention moderation inconsistancy, hopefully this will add a little clarity to the comments about such insonsistancy made in this thread:
If anyone would like to see a current example of the ridiculously inconsistant mod'ing that the current mod team get involved in, then click here:
https://passionford.com/forum/passio...ed-please.html
While in this thread people have been calling other users twats and idiots etc, and received utterly no punishment for it at all, someone making a joke about how a new name could be read, is given 50% of a ban from the site, despite the fact that person on the receiving end of the joke clearly wasnt upset by it anyway.
THAT is the big problem with passionford moderation IMHO, its not the rules, its the fact that it is totally and utterly at random how they get enforced and seemingly with utterly no application of any inteligence or reasoning at all.
No one ever respects any form of authority if it is inconsistant.

Jay, yes I am hoping it is now finally idiotproof, as beforehand it appeared not to be
But for the record, I never deleted it, that was someone on the moderation team not me, they also started several topics in my name on a similar vain, you would need to ask about in the mods room to find out who if it interests you.

i mention that other members have been deakt with same was consistancy seems to ne the word for this afternoon
I rewrote it after someone else deleted it, and when I rewrote it I did so with more knowledge than I had the first time so I removed the bit about no points being given in this specific thread for calling someone an idiot as I have since found out that they have been (which seems VERY inconsistant with other moderating as I have noticed on numerous times that NO red card has appeared against other far more insulting posts that I have seen members on here make)
Had my post not been deleted then instead of altering it I expect that I would have simply replied saying something like "just to correct myself there as I have found out more info since, apparently lambchop was infracted for calling someone an idiot" as im a stickler for things being accurate so take it very seriously if I ever find out I have made a mistake and always take actions to correct it when I am made aware of it as I would hate to mislead anyone!

That would certainly be a refreshing change from the bunch of seemingly clueless and random moderating we have had before

Well if the one of the mods can manage to be consistant for one afternoon, then maybe that could be a blueprint for all mods on all afternoons in the future

3 different mods dealt with 3 different cases of abuse on this thread who were the only ones on line all 3 have been dealt with by the rules

ah i see where your coming from now we banned rsnut but gave you and chop 5 points each for abusive behavour really then in your eyes we need to ban all 3 of you
gentlemen, can we ALL take a step back and calm down, this is all getting very out of hand
Chip your comment was taken by me as banter we are ALL inc me getting hot under the collar,I think everyone should re think there comments
I will personally speak to Tony about the points on your behalf
Now all your commnets have been noted and the adim and mod team are looking into a lot of changes but keep going over the same old ground and having sly digs isnt going to help anyone,so please give us a little time
thank you

Yes as per my reply above that you dont seem to have bothered reading so im not quite sure why you keep replying to me, I wasnt aware of the other infractions as the time I wrote the first post, so after my post was deleted (NOT by me) I altered that bit when I rewrote it as I now knew it to be inaccurate.

......BUT i am going to say the real problem always has been and always will be Chip, i said right from the beginning he is the real troublemaker who takes the internet way too seriously and ruins it for everyone, the technical side of this place has gone to shit because of him too....the banter pre him days was fantastic with everyone having an opinion..now its just chip's opinion or nothing

I find the comment about the technical side going to shit cause of me very at odds with the literally hundreds of people who have thanked me for helping them out on technical matters over the years so im not sure what threads they were reading that you werent, or maybe they just understood them and you didnt

And its you joining this thread specifcally to just talk about me not vice versa though mate, so I think you need to re-analyse who is stalking who

I think if this threads starts getting into pointing fingers at individual users we'll be here forever without achieving anything though, I can think of dozens of users who I personally feel the site is worse from their input not better but Im sure others would disagree with me, just like there will be lots of people who will disagree with you about me too.
Pointless road to try and go down.
Merry Xmas phil
