Default Update on C20XE

Been slowing up recently has this project Money is an issue (isn't it always?!)

Few pics of my head and block fresh from the machine shop

Block: Bored out to 86.5mm. Had to do it to start with a fresh bore as the hone i had left ring wear marks which were not acceptable, and not worth the risk running the engine with.

Its also had a lick of paint, and an acid bath to strip it of all the crap it had on it. It also had a reface

The head has come along nicely, all rebuilt, casting marks ground out, reseated valves, new oil seals & new gaskets all round, skimmed and tested

Gonna be a bit of a slow one i'm afraid, so this thread will slip. I'll revive it with big updates

Still loads to go:

Supercharger
Cometic gasket
Bearings (mains and big end)
Alternator bracket (for front of engine) Almost done
YB inlet to suit XE head (picking up tomorrow hopefully)

Once i got those bits i can start rebuilding it, which i can't wait for as seeing it in bits makes it look like nothing.

ahh brings back memories seeing that xe.i used to have an astra gte 16v tuned to a high spec, remember going on a forum called migweb just for vaux fanatics.i used to have a sbd prepared xe,on 42mm tb's-tapered,running mbe management, omega pocketed pistons, sbd rods, bronze guides, sbd valves, and some qed cams, mapped by sbd-i think it was putting out 230 bhp back then[4 years ago]

Not that anyone seems interested, but the manifold cost me Ł100. Not too bad, was expecting it to be more

Is yours a Mark 2 or 3. I'm tempted to do a chop for a Mark 2 GTE 16v

No, but i've had a bash in a MK2 GTE 16v and the handling leaves a lot to be desired

Driving them in a straightline gets your confidence up thinking that its quite sterdy and stable, soon as you hit a roundabout or bend a touch over what you would expect it to go round at, it lets you down by sliding the rear out. Also there's bucket loads of lift off oversteer, i mean SHITLOADS of the stuff

If you're after an astra go for either a MK1 or a MK3
