The rest of the shell is really good so hopefully it'll be not too bad underneath the kit
Top stuff Cliff, I know just how you feel
Have you seen the state of my car?
But as you said they are becoming rarer by the day!
That’s why it's up to people like me and you to keep them

Was very busy yesterday. I travelled 400 miles to sort out things for the car before i go away on Friday for 6 months. I was fooking knackerred last night as the bloody transit van that I got would only do 80 mph with the windows & air vents shut and that was going down hill

I was about to say "when I took the car apart", but everyone who knows me knows I'm not that mechanically minded
So I'll say "When Gadget with me being his bitch took the car apart" we left the kit on . This weekend the bodyshop took the kit off on Saturday but as i was at Castle Coombe I decided to leave my visit till Monday.
Well here's the results or should I say the damage

The not so good bit, however not that bad

It looks really weird without the spoiler

A nice bit of rust there

Looking sorry for it's self

Here's the bit I like
I had planned to stay with the 1900 cvh lump that I have but having thought there was a chunk missing off the top of the block it was actually just the head gasket
But the oil seals etc need replacing and the pistons and rods were still standard.
I only paid £800 for it with an AP Racing clutch so over 2 years later it's had a good innings.
Time to move on now and I did think about going Zvh but decided if I'm going to do a job it may aswell be done properly
First of all the head.

16 valves , just what the doctor ordered. These will be change though as I have all the bits for antilag and don't want to put it in and destroy the engine just to have to do it again.

Oh and it's not a standard head either
Check out the port sizes on this baby

This has a butterfly affect on this as it was for normally aspirated. Half stay shut when poodling around and the they all open up on full chat. This affect may be getting binned as it's for a turbo conversion and is already force fed.

F55 SOY (James Bentley's) Old exhaust manifold & exhaust so that the turbo now sits just above the gearbox

My bling fuel rail ready to take grey injectors

The inlet manifold, something a bit different. All machined for cossie management

AP Racing 4 Paddle clutch, we all know what these look like. Whether I stick with this is another matter as I'm not sure it'll be up to the job

The rocker covers, not sure whether to have one chromed and another sprayed.
What colours though. Any suggestions

The cams, these are the equivalent of cossie BD10 cams.

Zetec fly wheel with the pick ups you can just make out. The block has been machined with this in mind.

Now for the bottom end. The engine is brand new and never been used. However it has been stored in someones garage for a while. It is a 2 litre bored to a 2.1.

Now for the rods and pistons
Farndon steel rods with Accralite pistons with a 7.8 compression ratio for loads of boost

The whole engine was specced by Noble Motorsport who build the engines for the famous Nobles. The engine was specced with 400 bhp in mind running a T38 but I am going to stick with my T34 for the moment as it will be my track weapon and don't want it too laggy. Everything has been machined with cossie management in mind and it even has a sensor on the rocker cover incase I want to run coil packs. I will most likely go this route.
The whole engine has been balanced including the clutch and there has been work to the crank too.
That's a big enough update for now. Had to upgrade my photobucket account too

Thought I'd take a few piccies of some little bits that I have had stashed away in my drawers for a while.
Stud & Nut kit courtesy of Christian & Beccy

Got these off of Spadge a while ago with the intention of just having the Ecu but got tempted by Spagde's gold mine of a garage

The Ecu, throttle body ( modded for antilag ) , PF09 Throttle position sensor and Mountune antilag valve were off of his black 3dr and at a too tempting a price to say no
Thanks for all the kind words everyone. Actually stripping it down is quite scary as you tend to wonder whether you are doing the right thing
Thanks for the encouragement
As some of you know I go away on Friday to work in Belize , Central America till next January. The Bodyshop have agreed to take photos all the way through the restoration. Hopefully I'll get to see them unless anyone who lives in or near Wickford would volunteer to put them up on here so I can see?

That's going to be fantastic!!!!!
Rot on the wheel arches doesn't look that bad considering the body kit was covering them, i'm sure the body shop will sort them in no time
Awesome

Cheers Guys
Damo,
The reciepts for the engine total £5000 and I paid half that
I have no idea who I am going to get to build the engine. I've got plenty of time to think about it but any suggestions are welcome. It cam with all the gaskets, water pump , oil pump and even the little oil spray jets for the side of the pistons. Everything brand new and still in it's boxes
Tim,
27 Junctions on the M1 and I finally got to Ian's. Talked to him for about an hour. Thoroughly nice bloke
He does need to have a tidy out in his garage though
AD,
I was really happy with how everything seemed to have held together over 20 years even after seeing it with the kit off. However the rear arches are going to be replaced I believe and then rolled or cut back to make sure there is no scrubbage if I want to go with a wider tyre choice or maybe a wider wheel
I've got mixed feelings today as I am happy as Larry as I picked up my promotion from Lance Corporal to Full Corporal and am posted to Belize , Central America for 6 months as many of you know. But I am gutted that I won't be here to go and visit the car and see it in it's different stages of being restored
as I fly tomorrow
However the bodyshop will be taking masses of pictures all the way through
Marc Kinsey (M K , see above) lives near the paint shop and is neighbours with one of the people that works their and has said that he will get the pictures off of them and put them up on here so that I can see them whilst I am away. A massive thank you to Marc for this

the rust is in the common places but doesnt look nowhere near as bad as most of them
think about getting the front chassis legs strenghtened as they will crack easily with big power

It's the underseal under the floor pan which is the c unt to get off, in which case I advise warming the inside of the floor pan while scraping the outside.

it comes with 4 different chisel bits and has 6 speed settings

Would have loved to have chatted to you and Nath at Castle Coombe but was with one of my army buddies that I hadn't seen for a few years. Hope you don't think I was being rude

I have been away for 3 months working in Belize , Central America and have come home for 2 weeks for a rest as I don't finish till the end of January.
Bought a few things whilst I was away and had the sent home.
Thought I'd get one of these as the engine is going to be a bit of a hand full
An Apexi Electronic Boost Controller

Everyone loves the SECS Monitors. They really are a great bit of kit.

It's amazing what you can pick up on E Bay these days.
Things start to dull after 20 years besides all the polishing hasn't done them any good

Had to have these. There was no way the old ones were going back on

Brand new rear quarter window bolt covers

Brand new pedal covers

Bought this to go with my other Ford Racing Gauges from America as it was half the price that they are in England but it worked out at the same price by the time I had paid for the taxes etc

These came up on E Bay and were brand new. Picked them up for £275 posted

Thought it was about time I had a change of wheels. Well I've always loved
the Rondells that are usually on Escort Cossies but they are like rocking horse shit to get hold of in 17". I managed to get hold of a set.

I'm going to see the car in the bodyshop on Monday or Tuesday and at the same time I am going to take my engine down to Field Motorsport to be built whilst I am away till the end of January.
The bodyshop have taken pictures of what they have done so far and I'll post them up when I get them
