Well, mine has always been spot-on. Until now!!

I do like the idea of being able to re-torque the head-bolts every once in a while though.

A head-gasket of this type really relies upon the head and block faces being perfect though. Luckily, my head gasket didn't failure badly, so the head wasn't warped.

Since we built the engine!! Around 18 months I guess (whatever date this thread started!). It's been through I don't know how many top-speed runs, and at least 2 water hose failures. Quite unbelievable really.

SO even at 320bhp it's taken a serious hammering then!! Quite impressive for a standard gasket if you ask me.

Well, I would still actively recommend the fitting of a standard head-gasket to RST's up to 300bhp. Not bad from an item that was originally designed for 132bhp and historically prone to failure on every other car!!

Well, as an advance to this, it looks like the Cometic head gasket wasn't such a good idea......

So, that's the car off the road for a while. Shame really, as it was going so well.

I suppose it's a good excuse to take it off the road for the nasty weather.

hey there christian..

awesome power but noticed something funny about the graph..

the revs scale at the bottom seems werid..doesnt increase in 500 rpm increments like most graphs.

this makes your power band seem very very short indded...maybe from 5200 to 6400...

must rev out quick as fook...

how come the power drops so rapidlyafter 6800? were you not revving this right off the rev counter on the old vid from brunters?

Firstly, the factory rev-counter must be ignored!! They are miles out, On the right-hand-side of my dash is my boost controller, which also has a digital (and FAR more accurate) tacho built in to it.

The car's rev limiter is currently set to 7200rpm, but there is no point revving it out on the Dyno if it isn't really producing power up that high. It gives a little more head-room on the road, but no more power up there.

It might be that the drop-off is due to a restriction in the exhaust manifold, which is still standard on mine. It is still making 260lb/ft at 6800rpm, which is fairly good.

It doesn't feel quite as laggy on the road as it looks on paper. OK, so you have to be prepared to knock it down a cog, but big power rarely comes without downsides!! It is still great fun to drive, well was for the short amount of time that I got to drive it at this power!!

To be honest, I don't plan any real advances when its back on the road, I would just like to be able to drive it and enjoy it. The engine that this thread was based on has only done 5500 miles to date and over 2000 of those was spent running in and pissing around with cams that didn't work, so I would just like to be able to use it now!!

I'd heard a rumour you were having problems

Top car though mate, sure woke me up when I went in it

Hope it's back on the road soon mate, RS Norfolk meets aren't the same without it!

Does this mean it won't be doing daddy thrash this year?

Getting bored and itchy waiting for it to be done now.

The head has been repaired, although I haven't seen it yet. I am told that it looks like a new one. It has been welded, and over-hauled by the company that does all our machining (they do alot of Race-cars, so know what they are doing). It has also been fully bead-blasted.

That head will be for sale soon though as I have another one in the pipeline, but I reckon that's going to take time.

Unfortunately, when the car is out of action, it's hard to stay interested and I am finding myself over-come with thoughts of selling the car.

I just don't know what to do!!

Maybe.

I'm getting too old for all this lark!!

It would break my heart to reduce it to parts though, I have to say. Would be the only way though, I reckon.
