Work still in progess - White Series 2, this time its for real.. part 2.
So the original thread got deleted when I tried to add to it. Not sure if mods can get it back but pretty annoying to say the least
Anyways, last update was 2013!! Fast forward two years to may 2015 and we got here. Pulled the car out of the leaking garage to start stripping it down for the big push
Quick clean up and strip down to the bare essentials
Got her loaded up and away she went
And arrived at mecca

1st job there was paint strip and media blast to see what we've got to deal with. Id always regretted not touching the underneath the last time I did the car so it was nice to have it all clean under there. First to see how bad/good it was and second to do the build justice, couldn't have it all done and still covered in shit under there
Was surprised how good a base we had to be fair. Nothing worrying found at all, few little scabs but certainly no show stoppers
feeling sorry for herself outside NMS

Car sat in there a good while, so whilst waiting for a space it was time to get parts together for the rest of the build.
Full weld in custom cages cage was dropped off with the car, never got any pics of that but just a big pile of heavy tube is a good enough idea lol.
First on the shopping list was the carbon roof. I knew this was going to be the easiest option for the car really. The sunroof tray was pretty good but one small scab had started on the roof so for me it just made sense to get rid and get a carbon one on there. Probably cheaper in the long run than farting about getting a new tray/roof and welding it on. Plus the benefits of weight saving and it aint ever gonna rust again made sense. I didn't want a lacquer finish for it as a black roof on a white car just screams taxi so we went for a primer finish.

Ultimately the plan for the engine bay was a very minimal look but plenty of power. This is isn't mine but this is kind of where Im thinking
Ive always hated the brake servo arrangement for how it looks and how it is put together with the long linkage bar across the bulkhead etc.. so away with that and fitment of a pedal box. This whole build now is about doing it once and doing it right. No point fitting shit parts and worrying and having to revisit to do right. So straight in with the tilton pedal box
And some strengthening on the bulkhead to avoid any flex

The engine spec was chosen pretty early on. I was always happy with my old NMS CVH, and thought about a refresh and abit more power. Karl advised though that at this age the cvh block really is coming to the end of its usable life and only sensible to be used up to 250bhp. Wanting a lot more than that it was clear we needed a different lump. I didn't want a full on 16v turbo for various reasons really and it didn't seem that karl did either. So the ZVH was decided upon. A brand new mk1 FRS crate engine was used so we have a brand new 0 miles block, crank and oil pump etc. Steel pistons and rods have been fitted. My old head is to be used and the only real change there, as it was already heavily modified, is fitting of a newer design valve seat and a newmans cam. My head is an oddball with the oversized followers needed so I had to get newmans to grind up a set of oversized followers to suit and obviously mated to Karls cam spec.
Exhaust manifold has no issues making as much power as these engines can produce so although I had sourced a tubular one that was moved on and the cast unit ceramic coated. Another reason for not using the tubular is that we don't have any room for a turbo over the gearbox as were using the mk2 FRS 6 speed unit which doesn't leave sufficient space for a turbo and plumbing.
Turbo spec is a T38, sometimes frowned upon for lag but in this application with the 8v head providing a good amount of low down torque that lag will be useful to allow the power delivery to be useable and progressive, rather than an all out boost machine.

I sold the front bumper I'd had done last time with the cut out, and spoke to twins about his escort/sierra bumper and splitter setup and thought it would suit the car well, white and carbon. Got him to flare the edge out a little bit in anticipation of it blending in better to the series 1 arches which I'm thinking is the way to go.

Still a bit f***ed off with this one. Karl had said that he rated the 3" mongoose if I could find one. Got offered one at a reasonable price and picked it up. Never even really looked at it other than making sure it was the 3" and not the 2.5" as usual. Got it out later and noticed it had been chopped about for some reason, can only assume to fit a van? SO had to buy another one, and the difference is obvious. Not impressed with been sold shit when the person definitely knew it wasn't what he was saying it was, still biding my time on that one. I think we'll get it going with this one and then at a later date I'll have one fabricated from scratch.

And then the work of art that became the dashboard. Had to be a digital display to link up with the AEM ECU so I opted for the AIM dash for size and features really. Nice compact unit and has the idiot lights on this one for indicators etc so will help keep it road legal too. The dash I wasn't convinced the mk4 one was going to fit in well with the build so chose the mk1 FRS dash, trying to keep things ford but slightly more modern. Handing this over to the twins again for him to carry out a crazy amount of work and messing about to get this to fit. CAnt thank him enough for ripping his car to bits to mock it up and even making the cage out of plastic lol to try match how my cage will sit. Truly a huge amount of work gone in to this. Just needs offering up to mine to see if any minor adjustments are needed then off for flocking or possibly trimming in alcantera, need to decide yet.
The AIM dash really is a nice piece of kit, love the extra features it has, should be useful to be fair

We're hoping to have it done by may. Got a lot more updates to put up but photobucket seems to dislike my laptop and it takes forever copying the links. All coming together quite quick now.

Cant wait to see this project finished. I like that focus dash. There must be a lot of labour trying to get that dash fitted, but it will be worth it. Nice to see something different.

Had this little beauty for a decade lol, it got damaged slightly on the last build with the fifth injector rubbing through the lacquer and the rest had gotten quite yellow too over time. Trip to carbon delight and he flatted it all back and applied a new resin coat and buffed up a treat. Like new again. I do still have the power engineering cover so I'll use that predominantly and save the carbon one for poncing about with
Don't particularly want anything old going back on the car at this stage so sourced some new rear lights (new genuine arics), I say some . Sold the rest but have 2 pairs for me in case anything goes wrong on track
New header tank, I do have a polished spec r one but not sure about that with this build. Have to see which I prefer at the time. But fancy the originality of this and been able to see coolant level easy.

yeah for sure, I'd hate to work out how many hours Stuart spent on this one. Does look surprisingly at home in there though, I worried it may look too modern but I don't think its too much of a leap.

Have to use some imagination on this one. Ive never been a fan of people doing too modern a bodywork on these and particular the rear. I love the thought of a rear diffuser but they all just seem to look too new and out of place. I wanted something at the rear (who doesn't ). Noticed these vents on a car whilst sat in traffic and reckoned they'd be pretty subtle in the side/rear of the bumper.
Over to the twins again and he grafted them in to the bumper for me. I think once sprayed frozen white they'll hardly be obvious until you recognise something is different to standard. And you never know, they may even serve some purpose...

Ive always been the white rl7 kid and another set came up for sale, some gay lord over in Essex, works for uber with his sapphire 2000e. Couldn't resist another set, they needed a refurb so went a little different on these. At this stage they'll be the track wheels/tyres. Not to everyones taste I know, but didn't cost any more than paint so thought f### it. PLus with the black backs wont show all the brake dust as much as my white ones.

well, they didn't last long, as these came up on the radar! Compomotive MO 17x8 et30. Centre locks. Had a look about and found some 4x108 adaptors and they add 5/6mm to the ET so hopefully, still not tried them yet to confirm, they shouldn't be that difficult to fit. Gonna hold off getting them painted just yet until 100% they can squeeze in there. Believe they are from an alfa btcc car but not 100% on that, if anyone has any ideas?

Another stab in the dark with these too. Didn't like the tilton brake/clutch reservoir they sell and it doesn't seem to be a market awash with many options. Found these little gems but worried about the capacity, ive got 3, so one for front brakes, one rear and one clutch. Just not sure how much fluid will be displaced by the front calipers (4 pot for now) so will have to assess this on fitting and worst come to worst add another reservoir for the fronts. We'll see. Thinking a small mount off of the roll cage to hold these in the engine bay, nice and neat.

I remember seeing those centre lock comps looked pretty great! Never seen a set before.
The mk2 focus rs gearbox seems to be there preferred choice for rs turbos now do you know why that is at all? Im guessing theyre pretty indestructible? Also howcomes nms arent recommending cvh when they used to build the ultimate package in their stage 7 engine package?

The CVH block is just too old now mate, they cant take anything like the stress we want to put through them and is just a weak point you could do without worrying about. Under very high power they just split open at the front 9 times out of 10. I know others are still persevering with them but I didn't want to be pissing about 6 months down the line sourcing replacement blocks over and over. Hence the brand new frs bottom end.

very nice mate that is very interesting regarding the box. Does sound a very good conversion. Shafts, flywheel and cables seem to be the normal standard but modifying it to match the block how do they do that? Is it literally a case of just drilling new mounting points to match the engine block or even more complex?

I think you may need thicker cable ties to hold that cage to the door frame, lol.
Boobies in first picture.
Looking really good, car and boobies.
Do let me know if the wheels as similar dimensions and for sale.
