Default Headliner Question ?

1989 Sierra Saph

Is the actual headliner board (Not The foam backed covering) supposed to be attached / glued to the underside of the steel roof ?? Mine seems to have a gap of about 1/1/2" to 2" in the middle? I can push it up that much before it hits the steel roof? It seems excessive to me?

Thanks

originally there would have been a double-sided sticky foam pad holding the roof lining up in the middle of the rear section.

This is my current issue now.

My headlining has become saggy and detached from the board.
I am considering several options:

1 - Remove old lining and foam and redo with new cloth and contact adhesive kit (£70 eBay/AS-trim)

2- Buy complete new headlining already done (£300 from eBay/Aldridge trimming)

Suggestions???

Because I'm always skint I'd have to do it myself but if money wasn't an object then Aldridge trimming it would be

Yes,I bought aerosol glue and it didn't work well,I made a right mess of it so sent it to a trimmer,he tried his own glue and ruined it so he's bought more material cue 3rd time lucky!!
