shes on 4 wheels again for now.
I did make an error though, didn't rewind caliper enough so when wheel was fitted things got rather tight and wheel don't rotate doh..
back box as 3" Ashley inward rolled pipe, shorter than the norm but should be fine.
pics
I have a rather sticky starter motor, this will be addressed when I can get at it.
but she runs.

I think its because its inward rolled makes it look small. the system may be replaced soonish. when I was painting the backbox I think most of the baffles fell out lol. What system you got on you're glenn?

got the n/s front sorted today. stripped it yesterday, took the hub caliper/carrier to work and gave them a good rub down.
No corrosion under the plastic trim so wire brush and wipe down before couple of coats of stone chip. The front is having new shock/spring, flexi hose discs and pads.
So now I need top dig it out and repeat to other side

Top work matey. Im a bit confused with your front suspension arm,i thought only the mk1 sierras had these fitted. I thought the mk2 sierras had the pinch bolt type bottom arms.

I'm new to these cars so don't know what's what glenn, I thought that was pinch bolt type. Single m12 bolt clamping hub to ballpoint.
I made an error, rebuilding the strut which caused the spring to creak. I've redone it this after but resorted to Haynes to see what I'd done wrong. On a plus I have driven it, not on the road due to no tax but it will be taxed for April as planned

cheers glenn
o/s front stripped, strut rebuilt correctly 1st time lol. I put parts in a line so new which order they fitted lol.
I think the shock were original, motorcraft and very tired. the spring had broken, hadn't notice anything odd and no noise when driving, the top coil had snapped off.
Also mentioned to the painter she wants his magic touch, hes booked til mid april so should fit in perfect.
Then new wheels and enjoy!!

that's odd I replied other day to you're post glenn.
1st time I put it together it was easy jack under the hub and couple of smacks to the jack the balljoint was inline bosh job done. next time it was a pain, kept moving away from where it need to be, damaged some threads on balljoint but nut went on fine.
Anyway!
had another couple of hours on her today, wanted a good afternoon but a rush job came into work so needed to do 4 hours over time.
what I did get done was remove shit guard and find some rust, this turned out need a plate 50x80 mm welding to cure problem.
the rest of inner wing was wire brushed on the trusty grinder and treated to some stone chip
weather depending im hoping to get this corner finished and onto rear tomorrow.

onto the last corner now.
not a pretty site, F**King bodging scum, cant believe what they have done. The sill is in better shape than other side with only 1 plate being welded at rear where they rot, inner sill is mashed worse though, it looks like someone as tried to jack the car up and it as collapsed.
if you look at 1st pic with underseal. That is just filler under there, so I chiselled that off to find the holes. That is going to be fun to make it look right. I think what il do is weld a plate to the underside with a 15mm lip then put a plate down the side with holes in to plug weld to the lip on other plate. That plate can be then fully welded.

I'd love a 1600e, I have a thing for both mk1and 2 Cortina's I wouldn't get away with spending that much money on a toy.

Well its taxed.
I have cut out the rot on that inner wheel arch, the hub and swinging arm have been brushed and a coat of hammerite. Caliper/carrier painted. I have pics but phone as gone flat.
At times a surprise my self at how stupid I am. It had gone dark, I was just sitting in the car thought it would be a good idea to check brakes after they had been bled other day. pushed the pedal descent pedal but odd noise. so did it again and again, somat didn't seem right then clunk..... Can you guess what the retard had done. Pushed the damn piston out caliper. ffs.

not had a bad day today,
the caliper was sorted. then inner wheel arch was addressed.
unlike me I had full PPE on and only got a smack on the knuckles because with cutting disc shattered, I felt it hit my mask so I was lucky.
the sill took some repairing due to it previously collapsing. It should be pretty strong now with the amount of weld its got on it.
Also fitted rear spring and is ready for refitting. this should be done tomorrow hopefully
