small update today, ive spent loads of time just removing under seal, waxoyl and grease, not to mention plenty of house paint
the first pic up is the small hole that was in the n/s front footwell
in the first pic it is rot free but the surrounding metal was weak so any weak metal was also cut away
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
so next up once there was only strong healthy metal left, i cut and shaped some steel and merv welded it in for me.
merv has not been welding for long so any feedback on his welding would be appreciated
the penetration is good on his welding
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
also today the rear panel just under the rear doors where the number plate and small corner bumpers mount to was in a state, with mountains of red oxide and house paint, so i spent a while getting it all back to bare metal, and getting some etch primer on to it
so here it is in the first coat of etch
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
and the second coat
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
and unfortunately thats all i have for you tonight, hope you enjoy

Van is looking sweet bud my brother recently bought a mk4 escy van which everyone in our area has wanted for years (the owner would never sell it). Luckily for us it's been fully restored body wise but it's completely standard bar rst rims. My mate is delivering us a rs1800 fiesta which is going to donate its running gear and seats. It'll end up with a Zetec turbo eventually but the rs1800 lump will do for now. Once we start on it in the next week I'll get a thread started up what are you doing body/wheels wise? My bros undecided on arches/skirts (he says yes, I say no lol) but it will defo be rolling slammed on escort cosworth alloys

cheeRS mate its getting there, just need lots of time and money lol. extremely lucky to get a fully restored one, how much did he pay for it?? zetec turbo would be nice, with mine im just going to fully restore it, it will be mercury grey, same colour as the rs turbo, with rs turbo bonnet bumbers etc, ive got leather recaro's for the interior, obviously going to lowered, as for alloys im just going to stick with the rst alloys, as i think they really suit them, i would go for cossie wheels but cant afford them lol

It was a bit of luck that he bought it! I was on my way home from work on a Saturday only a few weeks ago and Kelly phoned me to say the van was for sale. She said he was then putting the forsale sign in it as she drove past. First thing I asked was how much and Kelly said "I'm sure it said Ł550" so needless to say I drove straight there and bought it for my bro he then went and picked it up about 15mins later
When he gets in from work I'll get some pics and start a thread

Sounds like an absolute bargain mate, seeing as the cheapest one for sale that ive seen recently was Ł995 and its standard and rotten, and a modified one for nearly 5k lol, look forward to seeing some pics mate

Love this. Really starting to like old skool fords now. Love the work that you've both done so far, especially how clean the inside has come up after stripping. Im no welder but all the repaired sections look pretty damn good to me.
Keep posting as much as you can, love to see it come together.

bit of a delayed, small update. we realised the rs bonnet i brought had a dent in it across the front where the ford badge goes, so we decided to de-badge it
so first of all i completely stripped the paint of that area and gave it a good rub down
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
and then i made up a template and cut out some sheet metal to size
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
and here it is in place and clamped ready for merv to do abit of welding, it sat in there perfectly
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
and here it is once merv had welded it up,
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
once that was done i got the good old grinder out
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
and then we put fibreglass (p40) over it and sanded it down with the long sanding block, to make sure it was nice and level etc, still needs abit of work, but as you can see its taking shape nicely
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
i also put a small amount of p40 on the slam panel where it had been welded/smoothed, next up we will be putting some p38 on it to smooth it off and finish it
but for now here it is, and again im happy, as you can see its taken shape nicely
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
the 90 spec bumper i brought also had a small amount of damage on the bottom where it had caught a speed hump, the cracks where properly repaired on the back of the bumper, but where still visible on the front so i gave them a good sand down
before
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
after
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
and thats all for now folks,
as always pleeease leave comments and feedback, positive and negative, all is wanted and welcomed, also any advice etc etc
thank max and merv

Did you really need to put fibreglass on top of the welded plate? If it was fairly level you would of got away with the smallest skim of filler, or if the plate had been slightly raised it could of been ground down level thus needing NO fibreglass or filler. Good work though, bodybork is my fav to watch people do.

im putting a rs turbo lump in this ,
my plans so far are to go EFI and put the t3 turbo on to it with full stainless exhaust from turbo back, nice induction kit, ie k&n etc, dump valve, and chipped ecu and that will be all really,
so should be nice and quick.
just got to source funds and parts

Hi there, thank you for your response, basically the reason behind the p40 fibreglass filler was because there was a dent in the bonnet across the front, so it wasn't actually for the de-badge it was to bring it all up flush, and I couldn't really see any other way to do it due to it having a double skin on that section. Thanks you again and please give me some feedback on my response thanks

If its got a dent on the front in general then fair enough. I thought it was just the de badge. I do what you done there, fibreglass as much as poss then minimal filler. Not one of these people who slap filler in like there's no tomorrow! Lol look forward to seeing it painted up.
thanks max

haha yea i know exactly where you are coming from. i absolutly HATE filler , only us it if i really have to, and even then its a very thin skim. and yes me two lol, hopefully wont be to long, planning on spending morst of tomorrow working on her, hopefully will be sprayed around december, january at the latest. fingers crossed, what do you think of all the welding and other bits and bobs????
thanks max
thanks max
All the welding looks top notch to me. Admittedly I've NEVER welded in my life ( although would love to learn) but have seen plenty of shonky looking welding and yours is by no means shonky.
Im enjoying your build a lot. One of the ones I follow more closely. Hopefully that gives you some more motivation to keep going I know nothing engine wise but I do know a little about bodywork which is why I mentioned the above.
You seem to know pretty well what your doing anyway so jobs a good un'

Uploaded with ImageShack.com
close up of the new bracket
Uploaded with ImageShack.com
we decided not to make any holes in the new brackets untill we are ready to put the arch liners in, so we then know exactly where they need to go.
