Thats what i'm saying, anything else isnt a 'full respray' IMO and the results will reflect the cheapness of the job.

Its about expectation and communication, the definition of 'full respray' leads me tho think of what i described but another man may well think it means something else

For example if you said to me "I had a bit of welding done and a blow over for £1300", i wouldnt bat an eyelid, but I also wouldnt bat an eyelid that i needs doing again 18 months later

As previously stated though its probably not for this thread and best of luck to the OP with getting his motor sorted, he deserves it as he clearly loves his cossie unlike a lot of users on here so fingers crossed

glad i read this thread. sorry you have paid so much. with 2 shells to get right i couldn't afford this cost. i will get them done in my spare time which will take a while, but it seems having them done proffessionaly does not seem any quicker in some cases.
good luck with the car and hope it ends up being a good job.

Paint work is not cheap now if you want a proper job, my work place has just charged a bloke £1500 plus vat to spray front bumper, bonnet and wings on his Audi Rs4 because he wanted all the stone chips removed. He said afterwards he had a quote from one place for £2300 plus vat which is abit over priced I my eyes.

people dont realize how much time proper prep work takes. i watched my mate bapty spend nearly 6 hrs repairing one rear sill on my mk3 xr3i resto. if i hadnt been there and went to the garage (if it was in one) and the boy said 6 hrs labour for that mate i'd have left feeling well shafted. sometimes to do it right takes 10 times longer ,lets just hope he's doing it properly.

i'd be tempted to get him to clean up the surface rust too mate, no point in having a whole bodyshop there if he's not going to do the work eh...

no point paying someone to do something you can do yourself quite easily.... especially at his rates.

I replaced both sides inner and outer arches del worth doing the inners with new metal if you are going this far, then go nuts with cavity wax, used one with rust inhibitors in the mix

3k .... I've just finished a complete resto of a mk1 Grenada , replaced front wings, both front floor pans, front panel, both inner and outer sill panels, plates welded in boot , rear arches and a complete respray outside including engine bay complete doors ,door shuts , seam sealed.
The car arrived as a rolling shell
Bearing in mind all panels except rear arch panels and sills were genuine ford panels- over a £1000
Paint come to over £500
Took 3weeks for all the welding to be completed( quoted 12 days) - £2400
Another week to prep for paint - £1000
A long day to paint it -£200
We had the car a total of 6 weeks and 3 days for various reasons
Agreed price 5400! Bloke gave us a crate of beer and a bloody nice tip because he was so happy !
Doing a complete outer colour change on a mk2 golf shortly , 1400 quid of which 600 odd is consumables !
How this bodyshop can quote so much for so little work is beyond me! Asking for money upfront ... Very un-professional. Clearly has no idea how to clear work ! Get it in, get it done properly, get it out! No returns or un-satisfied customers! I'd be brutally honest and specify I need the car done for 4 weeks time ! Ask for a final quote of which you will pay upon completion. Any problems ring you. If your not happy then tell them ! If he isn't willing to do what you want , then take it to someone who is willing to do it properly.
Hope you get you saph back better than ever

When you get it back it would be worth warming the seam sealer with a hot air gun and cutting it out with a stanley knife along the seam in this pic.

Wire brush it and paint some rust killer stuff on before re-sealing it.

The old sealer goes hard and rust creeps underneath it
