1968 Mk2 Cortina - Zetec turbo - Update! It drives at last!

Well, it made it to the show, not under its own steam though!
We did well considering; car was painted on Thursday, flatted on Friday, fitted up Friday night/Saturday morning when we finished at 4.30am. Then slept for a couple of hours and went to Santa Pod to set our stand up etc... So still feeling tired now!
Big efforts from my mates and the boys at Prestige Coachworks, so massive thanks is owed. Pics:
At the show:
And with Luke Ginn's Unveiling Escort. Our cars were built side by side and both were only just painted and finished in time.
This Escort is unbelievable. Smoother underneath than mine is on top - around 1600+ hours in the car.

Looks great Si, quite hard to believe it's the same car it was last year! Engine bay looks much better in the flesh as well!
And cheers for the pic of mine
We both have to get them on the road now, I have a feeling yours will be done before mine however!

Quick update - car is still not running
Changed to a Blacktop engine and caused a load of headache with clearance on the water pump, so currently being modified to fit. Waiting on a brand new wiring loom and a few other bits. Hoping to hit Central Day this year with it - which is feasible.
It made it to Ford Fair on the back of a low loader as well - should drive to this year's show!

Originally the car was built with a Silver Top engine. It was decided to change to a Black Top for the better flowing head and solid lifters but the crazy exhaust manifold I've got fouled the water pump:
Also the idler we had to turn the water pump the other way hit the water rail and although we could have modified it or changed it for another I didn't like the clumsiness of the set up, so we decided to make a Silver Top water pump fit!
So now I have this head waiting to fit with uprated cams fitted and Cat Cams valve springs and retainers. The head is on standard ports and the idea is to crack 400bhp with it.

The pump flange is close and obviously no room for the pulley. Much work in getting the silver top pump modified? Or is it just a case of have the correct holes being machine in the right place?
400bhp on standard blacktop head ports, that's impressive. You running a st170 bottom end and blacktop head? I'm thinking about doing this for the steel bottom end and the flow of the head.

We could have welded the the pump's outlet at another angle but it made more sense to change the whole set up. The Silver Top requires a much bigger hole in the block, some machining to the pump to clear the cambelt and then two new holes to be drilled and tapped.
It's a proper bottom end with forged pistons and steel rods. I know of a Mk1 Focus RS that's hit 390bhp with a GT30 on a standard head so it's feasible to get 400.
ST170 bottom end seems a good way for moderate power from what I've heard.

Under the car...!
How much was the inlet manifold?
nevsrevs, do I remember you saying you used the HO inlet for yours?! Im weighing up the cost of a custom one versus just using the HO one

Id have kept the silvertop lol.
The silvertop i had in my 3dr made 397hp and 386lbft. The head on that was midly ported but with oversize valves, 33mm/31mm and bd16 grind cams.
Oh and a t4 lol
If id have had a boost controller fitted the mapper said it would have pissed 450hp!!
There was plenty more to come from it.

What boost was yours doing? I would have liked to see what your engine would have made on another dyno.

ps the mapping on it was pretty terrible for anything other than flat out. drivability was shocking, BUT to be fair to luke the car did have a coupld of issues that needed addressing before i was to take it back to finish the mapping, but unfortunately it never got that far...
flat out on boost tho, it went like a cunt lol

Big step forward at the weekend - been about 2 years since it last moved under it's own steam! Ran it up to temp, and it didn't get hot which is a relief as to make a neater engine bay the rad has been converted to a twin-pass so there isn't hoses everywhere.
Also holds good oil pressure, so Lee worked on the map a bit so it now starts on the button.
Video:
Nice to see it out the workshop for once too! Still loads to do, but making good progress now
