Now, i know that this will probably only appeal to around 2-3% of readers lol, however its my new project and i want to keep an online record of my progress.
Hey guys, this is my first transit project and i have no real reason to have one other than the fact i like vans. Its pretty much going to be my daily transport so looking to tidy it up and make it look a little bit less commercial.
I shall update this thread as and when any work is carried out and will try to take as many photos as i can along the way as no project is that good without lots of pics.
So, this is how i saw it on ebay:

Doesnt look all that bad for a 2001 but as im in high wycombe and the van was in halifax, it was a bit of a blind buy. Anyway, put a bid on and won it for Ł1400 which i think is fair for a van with 170k on it. It does have a full mot, few months rent in the window and a recent fuel pump and injectors so im quite pleased.
Went up to get it on saturday and the pictures definately make it look better, obviously the locks, whilst fit for purpose, are hideous and will serve me no purpose so they will be removed leaving gaping holes. The rear isnt so much of a problem as short term im going to black vinyl where the windows would be, and then next month i will actually buy some windows and fit them.
The inside of the van wasnt much better, headlining is fooked, seats like a piece of cheese, dash trim all broken up and as for the rear, it seems to have been jetwashed in parafin, not so great for ply. It absolutely stunk so i have ripped it all out, will clean up any surface rust and have already ordered a complete new ply lining kit.
I have also ordered some mk7 rear lamps and wheel trims, replacement front fogs, a full size mat for the front and some decals. Also some new number plates to freshen it up.
My future plans are to facelift the whole front end, sport van bodykit and wheels and also a respray although im undecided as to what colour. I will also be attempting to fit a mk7 dash in the near future and maybe a mondeo steering wheel.
I shall take some more pictures today to show it in its current state

Still waiting on parts to turn up although my parcel force was here at 8.00 as usual to drop me off a couple of things, my 1 piece mat for the front and some decals im thinking of having on the rear quarters. They are kind of relevant as im a supervisor/mechanic at a go kart track. im also bidding on some mk7 passenger seats that i will hopefully win in the next hour.

Just spent the last 2 hours removing all of the old manky ply lining, was expecting to find some nasty rust underneath it all but im pleasantly surprised. apart from a few bits of surface rust there is hardly anything, along the wheel arches is still a lot of crud and some very light surface rust, this will be ground down and treated. big thanks to my girlfriend for cleaning pretty much the whole floor too bless her

Tomorrow i shall be collecting my ply lining kit from milton keynes ply lining and also my twin passenger seat from a mk7 which i won for Ł41. result

Had another productive day today, after ripping out all of the ply yesterday the back was looking a little bare. Had a little road trip today, first off to hayes to pick up some seats from a mk7. didnt expect them to be in as good condition as they are, practically brand new and only removed as the van is being converted to ice cream van.
After we got those it was off to Milton Keynes ply lining for obvious reasons haha. They do offer free fitting but where's the fun in that? On the way back home i had a little thought and stopped at B&Q to grab some loft insulation and plastic sheeting. Thought i may aswell fit some seeing as im not having a bulkhead and i want to at least keep some heat in the van.
Me and my gf spent a good couple of hours fitting it all, mainly because the drill i have here is a piece of crap and only lasts for around 3 screws
Anyway all fitted and looks so much better. Need to now keep my eye out for a mk7 drivers seat.

Old seat out

New one fitted, much better

More to follow..

Theres a guy local to me who has a blue transit sport dropped on bentley wheels. Impractical as hell but looks amazing, will try find a pic.
Today my mk7 rears turned up as well as my wheel trims and we also decided to fit the fog lights too. The fogs are actually escort mk6 items as transit ones command a bit more for some reason and they are practically the same although the escort ones dont protrude quite as far.
Bumper off

Old manky/broken fogs

All fitted and working. Sweet

New lights, not genuine but at Ł45 im not too bothered

And then fitted, you can see in this pic the holes left by the locks
Not an issue though when i cut it all out to fit glass

As with any project ford, the good bits are soon overshadowed by the crap stuff. Driving home today from work still happy about my mornings work when all of a sudden boom, temp shoots up almost immediately and then cuts out. It seems as though my water pump has shat itself possibly taking my power steering pump with it too. D'oh. More fun tomorrow i guess

Gutted for you, looks a cracking van,the insulation will be the best mod you ever make,I lived in my LWB for 4 months up in Aberdeen, awesome vans (mine was the older smiley faced one).
Shouldn't be too hard to do the w/p and pulley, annoying none the less.

So last night i did some research about probable causes of my issue. As i posted, the most likely cause was the shaft of my water pump had worn and possibly the power steering pump too. I was hoping that because i had no power steering loss that i could maybe get away with just a water pump.
Whilst i was under the bonnet i also wanted to take out the egr and have a look at its current state.
Started to strip down the front yet again

Started on removing the egr

Now, it seems as though somebody has had the egr of previously and blanked it off, great if it was done properly however it wasnt and one of the studs has snapped off. Bugger, will have to do for now until i buy another egr. Still works as it is for the time being.

New pump awaiting fitment

I wasnt too sure on the procedure for removal and fitment etc so i just did what was easiest as i was working in the carpark outside my flat.
Im sure there are much easier ways but as i also want to see how it all comes apart from when i do a facelift i decided to remove bumper support as well as the rad and fan.
I also removed the inlet manifold to give me better access to any bolts.

At this point i also decided to remove the starter motor as this gave me better access to the bottom bolts holding the pump to the block.

And with the old water pump off its quite evident that its had its day

Pretty pissed off though as it appears the power steering pump is also fooked. Too late in the day to order one now so i will have to wait until monday

Ok so ive not really updated this of late as im still collecting parts for my front end conversion, got a few bits here already but im browsing ebay daily for genuine panels as i want a good fit.

This is how i would love it to look although without all the chrome/ nudge bar and towbar

that looks the nuts would be good if you got yours looking like that, are you going to change the interior for the later type dashboard etc? ive always wondered if the later type dashboard and gearstick cable mech would fit into the older transit without much hassle

cheers for replies. I wouldnt have those particular wheels as i agree, they way too illegal for a daily.
The skirts, arches and corner bumpers are all transit sport parts. Pretty expensive new but currently looking into a group buy.
The mk7 dash does fit but there is a lot that needs to be changed plus i wouldnt be able to use mk7 clocks. It has just been completed by somebody on the transit forum though so its not impossible as it definately something i will be attempting in the future. want to get the bodywork sorted first of all.

Water pumps and PAS pump always need replacing in pairs. Swapping 1 or the other never works. Bit too late to tell you that now though!
Fitting the Mk7 front end will be a bitch from what I remember. All the inner wings and the bulkhead and scuttle is different from memory. I've not done a Mk6 to Mk7 conversion but I did see one converted and the person who did it said it was a right pain to do.
