F262 SVW - Escort RS Turbo **UPDATE** turning worse
So, given this wasnt just a "buy and drive" car, thought I better throw up my progress so far
Bought in blackpool
and brought home on a low loader
As soon as it was home, I started noticing more and more bodges
There was a couple of redeeming factors. An 1800 zetec bottom end, samco hoses and loads of stainless (if youre into that)
Then, running it on the drive, all the water hoses seems to be pressuring. First instincts were H/G, so I did a quick compression test. 150, 150, 100, 60psi PWND for not testing this car properly,
So, dropped the water
Ripped the header tank and swirlpot off
Ripped the head off, and found the reason for the fail
So, thats gone in the bin, replaced by a standard ford job.
Seems prev high tensile bolts were used
But I wasnt chancing reusing them, so ordered some new ones
Got the head off
and found this cheeky little number in there
Nicely does it. I have ordered a vernier for this so that I can time it up properly
Head back from a cheeky skim and pressure test
and a pile of stuff waiting to go back on
But while its off, thought I would take the opportunity to wrap the exhaust manifold and downpipe
Today, I torqued the head back up
and there she sits at the moment
Just waiting for my mate to drop off a standard inlet, rocker and charge carrier and then she should be back together. Going to drop the oil and put some decent stuff in, and hopefully, fingers crossed............ everything will be fine/
The saga continues..............

Acquired more parts over the weekend, much to our lasses dismay
Parcel shelf:
ewwww, bit manky. A quick rub with some 1001 and hey presto:
Then my friend dropped off a standard rocker cover and charge carrier so I can get rid of the bling. I told him I wanted standard...... what does he leave behind my car...
LOL
So, broke out the big guns
Will get that painted standard silver this week. have put the shiney shit back on for now as it will have to come off after 100miles to check the torque on the headbolts.
Also picked up a set of MINT 88 spec front seats to resplace the torn ones in the full trim set that I am picking up from Telford next week. Christ, I am going to be busy.
Next job, fill header tank with water, drop shitty oil, kick it over with no spark plugs in, then hopefully she will fire up

So, some more little bits and bobs done.
Got her fired up after a little issue of not draining a lifter so the inlet valve was holding open a touch.
Then this:
88 spec seats bought. Went to take the 90 specs out and the floor in the drivers side was wet. Bugger. So, I thought "sod it" and jumped straight in at the deep end
Ripped the carpet out and soaked the car. Found the leak to be an old hole under the battery tray, so a 13mm nut has solved that issue. Its all back in now and much cleaner, plus shit actually stays in place!!
Then this eve I got home to a nice few parcels on the table:
That would be my Cossie 4pots and vibbratech mounts then

Havent done much since the last update.
Got the car running, but the idle was f**ked. Dragged it up to Chorley St Garage in Bolton with the AA man behind me in case I broke down, lol.
Its been set up for now, but needs a proper set up by the likes of MSD or NMS, which it will be getting in a couple of weeks.
My mate is having it next weekend to sort this lovely bit of wiring out
Once that's done we will know if its getting the proper amount of juice to the fuel pump to flow properly, and it can be set up.
In the meantime, will install my gauges where the radio was, so I can keep an eye on oil pressure, oil temp and boost
Anotjher issues has also arisen.......... bottom end seems to be breathing a little heavy at the moment. I am not sure if this is down to where the oil return is plumbed in, or whether the rings are fucked. I will do a leakdown test this week. In te meantime, homemade catch tank FTW
Then I took to installing my older 88spec trim panels instead of the creamy 90 spec ones
You can see the difference here
and on removal of the panels, I was greeted by a lovely sight
ewwwww, thats fucking GRIM!!! I cant wait to find an 88 spec head lining
On the upside though, my Goodridge banjo-ended brakelines have turned up
That means I can now fit my cossie 4 pots and 283mm grooved discs.......... AWESOME!!

Tell me about it, im going to be sorting all that (and more) out next weekend
The car looks like it has had about 5 different alarms/immo fitted in its lifetime
Had a look over it the other week though and it seems a fair solid car so worth spending a few (will be lots) of pennies on

Tripod, I am on the hunt for an 88spec rooflining, so will swap it as soon as I find one.
Moonie, I am sure the box of beer on the passenger seat and the cash in your wallet will make up for a little soldering here and there
I was thinking today actually...... you still have that brake bleeding kit?

So, had the car running for a little while. Used it for a couple of trips here and there. Had it booked in with my mate for its rewire this sunday. However, on thursday night, the car had other ideas.
Drove to Morrisons in the rain to get some food. Car started to misfire a little, then cut out. Rolled it into a space and went to do my shopping. Got my mate to come tow me home and ditched it on the drive. No way I was pissing about in the rain.
So lay in bed later that night and though "I am sure that fuel computer was beeping at me when I set off, but the gauge said 1/2 tank" LOL. Ran out of petrol havent I.
Next day, waled to the garage, got 10litres of suer, poured it in, and proceeded to turn the key.............. fuck all. Just turning over. Hmmm.
So, I whipped the plugs out to check them
Oh deary me. They shouldnt look like that. So, then took off the top boost hose
At this point, I just wanted to take an axe to every panel
Seems the rain has been pissing through the bonnet vent onto the shitty K&N cone filter, seeped through and collected in the metering unit. As I have turned left into the car park, its all poured into the boost hose and been sucked up into the engine, hydrolocking it, probably bending a rod. So, all that hard work over the last couple of months has gone to shit, and the bottom end is now scrap.
So I better get stripping it down ready for a replacement engine
I think thast rod may be bent
Bores seem to have a lip on them anyways, with no hone marks
and as it stands, a boot full of bits
Plan for this week is speak to engineers, see how much to block oilways in another zetec bottom end and braise oil breathers into the block. If that cost is going to be sky high, I will throw a standard 1.6 CVH engine in it.

***UPDATE***
Pick up new engine
Attempt to get engine out with bricks and jacks after being let down 2 weeks on the run for an engine crane
Fail massivley
Rent crane from HSS
Put dent and scratch in Sandras bumper getting crane in/out.
Get old engine out, put new engine in.
Forget what sensors go wear because some fucking dimplow has replaced all colour coded sensors with new black ones.
Tempt Moonie with beer to come plug correct sensors on.
Charge battery up.
Attempt to fire up. No running. Turning over, no spark. Get annoyed, walk away.
Decide to put the effort in, fill header tank with water.......... see water drip from back on inlet. Get worried.
take plug one out for comp test. Down on comp. Think "Hmmm, might be low comp engine."
take plug 2 out......... piss wet through with coolant.
Lose will to live. Close bonnet. Get really...... REALLY angry.
Put all spares up for sale
Go buy Renaultsport Clio 172

Dunno if its tossed, or my inlet was cracked. Lost all hope with it.
Gonna.order a new gasket kit next week and go at it with fresh eyes because I cant take many more setbacks with it.
I just want it fixed and sold. I dont want anything to do with it anymore
