i say go for it allthough i think what you would be better doing is chop the bulkhead to give the space to fit the engine into the capri and then possibly look at fitting wide arches to give clearence for fitting the suspension if you are dead set on it as opposed to trying to fit the merc floor pan, as swaps like that need to be done with cars that have similar dimensions for example cossie floor pan into rs turbo
either way good luck
either way good luck

This thread is beautiful. I mean, it's obvious that we have different tastes, as you prove.
But -
People on here do have valid points that you appear to be ignoring, because you think you're correct. Unfortunately, you aren't the first, and for sure, you won't be the last person to turn a blind eye to the obvious.
Here are a couple of facts that are majorly apparent :
1. That Capri isn't styled the way 99.9999999% of people would do it.
2. The conversion you are planning, is a massive undertaking.
3. The conversion you are planning is so unrealistic, as the 2 vehicles are ridiculously dissimilar.
4. Your attitude, as well as being majorly positive (great!) can be extremely rude in being so ignorant to simple, yet informative information.
5. There would be a lot less doubt on your behalf, if you found a more suited transplant vehicle.
6. We all wish you luck, as you'll need more than we can all give.
Can I ask.. Just a couple of simple things really. How will you stretch all of the panels to fit the merc? Is that all you plan to do? Surely you won't want to drag the Capri seats etc over?
All the best.
Jay.

Jaycc ill take into consideration the inputs of anyone who does not blatently just insult me, im sorry but when a lad talks like a bitch they need to be slapped like one too
well, as i say i think the only thing that will actually make or break the conversion is gonna be revolving around the right arrangement for the seating/dash/ steering wheel and pedal location. anything linked to that front bulkhead really. THAT is the hard part.
alas, the merc has one very useful thing about it, if you look at the suspension mounts (including links etc underneath) they are all very nicely set far in, for example the front is set (wings on) a good 150mm in and the wings only take up 50mm if that unlike a capri wing they are very slim with overhang, the rear is even better as the track of the car is in fact shorter at the front. BUT there is a small matter of the smaller items under the bonnet that are arranged very specifically in the corners just by the bonnet hinges and under that massive front window.
i have been thinking about the dash and i reckon i may have to take it out and probably make another temporary one to be able to do certain bits... that and i would have to chop it down to size if i did want it in under the capri body
p.s. i was hoping to see an engine like that under there

I think people are taking this piss so much because (not to be rude) you body work skills are at best poor and what you plan to do with the merc/capri i dont think most professional body shops would even do as it would be too hard.
Your basically saying your going to hand make panels to make it look like a capri which unless you have VAST amount of experience is this area i would more than likely say you will screw it up.
On the other hand if you just said " i wanna fit the merc engine in my capri" i dare say most would be happy to help as this is doable, although again will require a lot of fabrication.
On another note, if you did end up putting capri panels on a merc it would look nothing like a capri so why not just just the merc up to look like a capri using 2nd hand panels.
GL either way

you?! HA, sorry, but id rather jump off a cliff.
funnily enough, this site SHOULD be for anyone with a ford, i.e anything goes. although all i see is the same stuff over and over again. fairly boring. so i'd have been daft NOT to think i'd upset 99% of you now wouldnt i?
tell you what though, i do a good job of making some of you show your true colours... if i were you i wouldnt take that as a compliment either.
and ill get on with the project in MY own time, i have some things to do first.
now if you dont mind, i have a garage to sort out.. need alot of room for a 100k merc..

Op bin the idea.
It will need an SVA test im pretty sure(??) and from the look of progress done to it so far im no gambler but pissing on the moon is more achievable.
Want to really break the mould op??
TWIN YB's in it, tuned to 1000bhp each with as standard an outside as poss!!
Now that WOULD BE EPIC!!
Good luck all the same

I bet that car above when the owner set out to make a "one off" custom car for his/her self i bet they want thinking, i know ill make a fugly death trap and then take it to vosa so they can piss there self..
they probably had the intention of making a nice car but unless your very skilled or have extremely deep pockets then more than likely this is what it will look like.
I dont fault your enthusiasm as clearly you know what you want but you litraly have chosen the most difficult way to do it.
you will need custom made glass, panels, wiring, roll cage also amazing fabrication skills and workshop and tools also i take it your a professional welder if you not then find another way to achieve your goal its one thing to make it but a whole different game to make it road legal they will go over every part and you dont want to have £1000s in a car that fit for only scrapping.

I think if the rear windows , Sunroof were done right and the bonnet features reduced in size a bit it would look o.k in Satin black as a mad max style car. Unfortunatly i think as soon as you start cutting the cars neither will see the road again but i'm happy to be proved wrong

im only 85% sure it WILL work as it is... the rest is a gamble that no one else has done im afraid. what can go wrong, may well go wrong. but frankly its worth a shot... besides, i could always take out a loan the size of a mortgage and pay someone else to think a way round the one thing that could definately go wrong... all else fails, money is the answer!
