is it just painted or is that red underseal ? and what paint is the black you used on swing arms and drums etc cos that looks sweet
The underside was stripped down just like you are doing - rust treated and a couple of minor welding repairs and then one coat of primer, two coats of overpaintable stonechip and then just sprayed with aerosol cans to give two coats of cellulose radiant red and job done.

As for the black the wishbones, brackets, drum backing plates, hubs all done in black powdercoat - cost me £80 all in to have all items from the car done.

The tie bars are new items - not worth refurbing given they are about £45 a pair
The fuel pump carrier was too rotten to refurb so new one from Autospecialists and the rear arb links are new items as still available from ford.

they cheaper than replacing with oe rubber ones.
I used the floflex ones on the rear wishbones as you can see in this pic and the great thing is they do them in black so look pretty original as well

Had trouble a little fitting these wishbone to hub ones and had to trim a bit and pursuade a lot but they are good enough for fast road car.

Decent value for money and so far so good.

might go floflex then i think.
cant justify the £180 that other companys want when floflex is £80 for the rear.
Was gonna just use original rubber ones but cant find wishbone to hub ones anywhere.
can get the inner barrel one but not the 2 outers.how daft is that?
so i think polys it is.

did you specify black ones when ordering as they are orange in the pics?
and does the barrel shaped inner wishbone bush come with the metal casing around it like the originals or do i not use that now?

Yes definately specify you want black - they come as orange as standard and they also do yellow I beleive.

As for the inner wishbone bushes they come with an inner sleeve and are ready to fit and there is no need for the outer. All the bushes I had came ready to fit.

quick update.
been busy sanding underneath of car ready for underseal.
also stripped back to metal all rear components, suspension, springs, wishbones, drums, arb, tie bar etc etc .
had following powder coated black.
fuel pump cradle
rear arb
arb brackets
link bars
springs coated yellow
painted some parts myself with hammerite black smooth spray in a can and i can honestly say its the best gloss black can paint i have ever used and i cant reccomend it enough.
no need for primer, just direct to metal and it looks better than the stuff i had powdercoated.
im no pro,but it looks like the parts have been to a spray booth.well chuffed.
i hammerited tie bars, wishbones, servo, fuel tank strap.
zinc silvered the tie bar washers, bias valve bracket and brake pipes.

getting welding done next weekend then i should be able to underseal car and reassemble rear end,put fuel tank back on,and have a moving car again, till i move on to the front for stripping
following welding to be carried out.
both outer sills.
edges of inner floor.
hole in front floor.
hole in boot floor
patch in rear valance
rear chassis legs
scuttle panel
slam panel
dont you just love old fords????????
heres a few pics of stuff i painted with hammerite smooth

s2turbszvh- that looks stunning, did you do it all yourself?

stevealien- well done so far mate, your making good progress.

to you both, did u have trouble getting the bolt off that holds fuel pump cradle to the chassis? think i might have to hack mine off, cant get to other side of it as the suspension is all in, and when i turn the bolt it just keeps going round and round.

you need to remove wishbone to get to retaining nut but even then i couldnt get mine off cos the 2nd bolt which goes in the boot wheel well just kept spinning so ive left it in place.
if you have no choice then hack it off with a grinder chap.
