Black beauty s2 erst restoration project
hi guys.
I will use this thread to update you on my s2 rs turbo restoration project.
I will name her black beauty.
I purchased in sept 2010.
vehicle had been in storage for 10 years and not run for 13 years.
after 3 weeks i finally got it running after losing nearly all my hair from head scratching.
Now shes running sweet,i have strpped her of her interior to see condition of shell.
Needs some welding to rear arch, outer and inner sills, bulkhead, boot, roof, etc.
actually really clean underneath but defo work to be done.
All rust being cut out and done properly, then new paintjob, new poly bushes, new suspension, cossie brakes and gonna make car look original but go like stink.
my last rs i sold 13 years ago.
it had a 1.9 zetec turbo lump which produced 240 bhp at wheels,260 at flywheel, and an incredible 386lb torque at 26psi.
a true monster.
This one is gonna be brought back to former glory then kept hopefully for ever and only brought out in dry weather as its my 2nd car.
will update how things go,and look forward to the adventures ahead and friends i make along the way.
wish me luck,im going in lol...........

this is where shes at so far.
took a few weekends to get it running after 13 years of no start.
Replaced all sensors, fuel meter unit and got her running ok.
was ticking over great all day so assembled car for test drive.
drove around carpark in 1st gear and all seemed well.
Took out for test drive on road, soon as i got in 2nd she was backfiring and cutting out like crazy.
took back to my unit and was running very lumpy on idle and stalling.
left overnight ,started next day and still lumpy on idle.
decided to check injectors.
i had some spare used ones
tried pot 4 1st as it the easiest to get too.
swapped injector,started car and brooooooooom.
she started and ran lovely.
must have got lucky.
removed all injetors and gave them a quick clean.
starts 1st turn everyime now but smokes a little.
will investigate the smoke once bodywork carried out.
atleast she running.
appreciate its gonnna be a money pit but hopefully worth it as i have a real soft spot for erst`s.

took out for another test drive and theres no backfiring.
ran lovely but a bit smokey.
fuel guage was not working so removed clocks and checked all wiring.
no fault found so removed fuel tank.
found that fuel sender unit was siezed and float would not go up or down.
tried to loosen with some wd but no luck .
tank was full of rust and fuel looked like muddy water so have ordered replacement tank and sender which should be here tomorrow along with other goodies i need.
tomorrows shipment should be,
90 spec original rear tint lights
parcel shelf (uncut)
boot carpet
passneger c/l motor
fuel tank and sender
door seal
and many other small bits and bobs.
should be like xmas morning lol
next stage is to get all the welding done
its not that much ,.but enough to to halt any further work.
only really got weekends to do this and a few evenins in the week so doing what i can when i can,
loving every minute of it though.
its like being 18 again lol

Will it ever end !!!!!!!
Depends on what kind of finish you are looking for really
Mine went from this
To this and was pretty easy to do but what sort of level are you looking for??

oh man i pissed off..
ordered a load of spares from a guy on fleabay.
when thay arrived today i was not happy.
got a pair of mint 90 spec rear lights and one has snapped on the wrap around bit on the end.
Also ordered a petrol tank.
the guy sent me one in a box full of polystarine packaging.
he failed to block the filler pipe hole so all the polystarine bits have gone inside the tank, been melted by the remains of old petrol and has turned into some sticky glue over everythin inside tank.
its so sticky i cant get any out,its like a tar.
1 part was missing from order too.
i called him and just givin me attitude and sayin its one of those things.
aaaaaaaaaagggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever you do,dont order from a guy on ebay called rsturboparts.
I recently ordered a load of bits off him and everything turned up broke.
when i called him he gets very aggresive and justs hangs up.
im sure he wouldnt be so brave if he lived near me .
i got 90 spec rear lights for my s2 which turned up and one was smashed.
a central locking motor that doesnt work.
odd wiper covers.
a petrol tank which was filled with polystarine packaging and had melted inside the tank ruining it.
A parcel shelf which he bent the corners and snapped so it fitted in the box.
a door seal i paid for wasnt even in the box.
guy is a total knobhead and just keeps saying "why are you moaning about everything i sent you,it was cheap.
well i didnt ask for cheap, which it wasnt, cost me Ł170,i asked for parts that are usefull, not broken .
so be warned guys, hes a miserable skanking fooker who wont be getting another penny off me.

removed wishbones and had to have old bushes burnt out with a oxy torch cos they siezed.
wishbones ready for powder coating along with rear arb,arb link arms, rear springs.
thinking of replacing all bushes with polys.
found some cheap ones on ebay from floflex but heard mixed reviews about them.
anyone have any experience with them?
they cheaper than replacing with oe rubber ones.

Some of the Floflex bushes don't fit that well. I had to shave a few mil of the rear wishbone to hub ones but I'm sure they'll be fine for a fast road car.
