Default ZETEC TURBO TIME for ERST!

Hey peeps...not too sure howmany of you remember back in 2003 (if any ) when i was preparing my car for GTI international (the Scirocco) but that time has come again but for my escort

the Scirocco went a bit like this:

http://www.fiestaturbo.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=21636

http://www.fiestaturbo.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=44368

http://www.fiestaturbo.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=46343

http://www.fiestaturbo.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=49188

http://www.fiestaturbo.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=57659

all the various progress stages of my Scirocco...from beginning to end

now its time for the Escort to recieve the same treatment

but some of u may think...WHY?! its mint!....and i do agree:

however, i want it looking different never happy am i :bonkers:

with it being a Ford...once the kit came off...i kinda thought..OH NO! RUST!!!

havent got any close up pics...but the passenger side was not too bad...driver side was fairly bad....so i got these

those are being put on while we speak as well as the sills being patched up a little towards the rear arches....all in for £180 :aviator: :Q cant beat that quote!

the car has been sent off to the welders in this state

cant wait till its back so i can crack on with the body mods

will keep u all updated

will do peeps and thanx for the comments

am still waiting for the car to come back from the welding place so i can crack on with the body mods...

rang up Fords today and they quoted me £50 each for wings and thats not trade so by the time i get trade should be about £40-45 each which is sorted

also should be picking up my new badges for the rear of the car and a few other bits and peices some time next week

rear bumper will recieve some work hopefully today...but i have a question...

when i am smoothing the back, do i have to remove the current black strip in the bumper or should i filler straight over it?

adam, will need to speak to you regarding the underside hopefully this evening

Remove the strip and 'score' the recess so that the fibre glass resin has something to key to.

Keep the pics coming

Personally id ditch the badboy bonnet idea but your choice m8

bad boy bonnet is only subtle....think ive gone a bit mad in the pic LOL...i just wanted to close the gap around the tops of the headlights...might have another idea in mind though

i heard fibre glass would be a bad idea as it could crack when the bumper goes back on as it needs to be pulled slightly?

lee - hmmm...decisions decisions lol...i think ill try bumper filler and see how it goes...any trouble and ill just try to sort it out or worse comes to worse ill just buy another bumper and use fibreglass as youve said...

will keep you informed

Spoke to the welders again today and they said that the arches are done but the welder rang in sick today so no sills got done today looking at early next week now...think ill go start the bumper now though

hey there peeps...am currently working on the rear bumper and am running out of bumper filler typical so am just wondering for the rest of the bumper...only the long straight bit...is it ok to use normal filler? or will ir not be so good as i have used bumper filler from the ends of the bumper through till just past the corners so just have the middle section left...

or do i wait till tomo and buy some more bumper filler

thanx

but ill know where the normal filler and where the bodyfiller was applied? the normal filler would be on the straight part of the bumper i.e where no stress was applied when the bumper goes back on and needs to be pulled slightly...and the bumper filler would be on the corner bits?

just an idea any way so i can go most of it tonight lol

thanx for input though

luke i have heard the fibreglass can crack when the bumper goes back on as you cant really stretch and bend fibreglass as well as bumper filler...i could have been told wrong though so im not too sure hence me attacking the rear bumper before the front LOL

i mean if the normal filler cracks where it meets the bumper filler... it should idealy filled in 'layers' not in 'sections'

hey there peeps, just a quick update...began work on the rear bumper today...everything was going ok...then i ran out of filler sods law aint it!

but this is how the day went:

Picked up the bumper from the garage and gave it a quick was with fairy liquid....fookin amazing howmuch that stuff foams had 1/4 of the bucket with water a bit of fairy liquid and the rest was foam

then wiped the water off with a cloth and let it dry for a bit...its the last time the bumper looks like this

after a bit of aggro and convincing with a screwdriver i finally got the black strip off...then had missions getting the glue/double sided tape that was left on the bumper

once the sticky stuff had gone, i attacked the bumper where it was to be filled with 80grit paper and roughened it all up

started applying the filler and then ran out half way across the bumper LOL...TYPICAL!

also cleaned the inside a little...you think i should paint this or am i being too fussy now?? :bonkers:

back at it nice and early tomo want to get all the sanding and re-apply another layer of filler and get it ready for tomo...and HOPEFULLY the car should be back monday or tuesday

bassboy

P.S lee think your sig has persuaded me to go for radient

No probs mate. Got two places that can supply one now....question is are they correct, as they seem to think all the "petrol injection" tanks for the mk4 escort are the same, but as I have been told the rs turbo has the swirl pot inside it where as the 3i don't? So not sure, need to confirm that with them first....

lee...the pics were taken with different camera perhaps thats something to do with it...i know the car was mint...even if you look at the top pics it was outstandingly clean for the year and ORIGINAL paintwork...

however...the parts that needed replacing were rear arches, front wings...and there were a few dings on the doors where someone has opened their car door onto it...so i thought, its only the boot, bonnet and roof left so might as well do it all lol...also found that the passenger side door was fading as well as the rear spoiler but you could never tell (one of those things only the owner realises lol) and as posted in another forum...apparently im a perfectionist

also wanted to make the car stand out from the norm hence me doing quite a few things to the exterior...and the rest of the spec list should be pretty impressive if all goes to plan

peteh - i THINK rosso red is darker and 90spec escorts came with heated front screens, variable intermittant wiper speed, air ducts in the front bumper, different lighter interior, wrap over style rear spoiler and cant think of anything else
