Got loads done today...

Firstly I sorted the handbrake cable out. It was flopping about under the car so I P-Clipped it up. No pictures Im afraid but the underside looks mint!

Next, I started on the fire extinguisher. Mounted it up and routed all the hose and mounted the nozzles. One is at the back of the engine and one above the gearbox.

I then started making up a switch plate, to mount my cut off, FEV pull cord and several switches I want/need. No pictures Im afraid. But looks the part. Just need to figure out how to secure it.

I then remembered I bought some Smoked ultra's...

Started looking at the oil cooler and decided to sort that out. Took the filter off, put the sandwich plate on with the sensors for my gauges I got through this morning, and mounted the cooler take off plate. Ran the hose and mounted the cooler above the rad.

It sits right in the path of the upper grill, so should work well.

Did a few other bits, nothing majorly noticeable. But getting there!

Stupid Photobucket

Since the last update there has been a great deal of faffing around trying to get things to work properly.

With the new idea for the coolant system, mounting the header tank where the battery sits, I needed to move the battery to the boot. I ordered an FIA isolator switch, which when wired as I thought it should be, it would never work.

After days of being really annoyed at the thing, I gave up and wired it as a simple isolator switch. It now works.

Then came the problem with the fuel/spark. I couldn't get the car started. Swapped the coil pack over and the car ran, but only for a couple seconds and if throttle was applied, it would just die.

So after words with several people, I hunted down a fuel problem. Changed the relays, for the pump, checked the cut off, checked all fuses, filled up with 5 litres.

Dead battery.

Jumped the battery and finally got it into life. But with a terrible knocking noise. After 5 mins inspection, the water pump pulley was loose. tightened that up and let it idle.

The idle was dead lumpy, which lead to an incorrectly fitted HT lead - not fitted over the spark plug properly.

Amongst all this, I had brake lines leaks, fuel leaks, coolant leaks and oil leaks. Fixed the fuel and line leaks but tightening up the necessary fittings. Coolant leak was due to a perished thermostat gasket, which I happened to have a new one laying around. So swapped that over and no more leaks. The oil leak was a loose fitting, simple.

Last week I bought an OMP subframe off eBay, just the drivers side, second hand. Fitted this, measured up, drilled and mounted my seat side mounts and mounted the seat. It needs to move forward a bit but is dead comfortable and supportive.

With all this in place, I took her for a spin. For the first time since February 2010, I drove this car all of 0.4 miles down the road.

There is still a HUGE list of things to do, but the engine runs nicely, and pulls well.

this HUGE list consists of lots of minor details. But a few days hard graft should get them done.

Massive thanks to Eamon and ShawSpeed for the help and advice the past few days. Appreciate it

Just been tidying up the past couple days. Routing cables, hoses etc. All wiring/lights now work. I'm missing a few bulbs so need to buy them.

Harness is in, however I need to move the seat slightly forward. Brakes also need bleeding very badly, they are terribly spongy.

Aero catches need sorting out, made a start on them today. And a windscreen is getting fitted next week hopefully.

Gave it a good hovering today and a general clean up. Removed the rear bumper as it needs painting!

Pictures!

Haven't updated this in a while.

I bought some switches needed for heated front and rear screens, and the front and rear fogs.

Wired them to the relevant relays

and made them work

Unfortunately, no pictures from this point. A manic few days followed the beginning of this week. I took the car to a garage to get the brakes bled and a windscreen fitted.

I had to do a great deal of fiddling around of bits and pieces to get it sorted for MOT. Bumpers had to be mounted, windscreen wipers and washers sorted, all bolts checked etc.

MOT was booked in for 11:45am on Tuesday 28th June. It failed first time round on a few leaks and a mounting point for the harnesses. I rushed back to the garage and sorted the problems, and a few hours later took it back to receive a years MOT.

I'm still trying to put miles on the engine before I push it - rebuilt engine with new rings - but it handles extremely well.

Will get some decent pictures up soon. It's not much of a sight to see though, body work is a mess. Its more about function over form at this moment in time.

It's been ages since I've updated this. To those that are interested, here's what's been happening!

I enjoyed the car for a couple months before having a slight collision with a barrier. It wasn't major but needed sorting.

Had the car sent to the body shop for a huge amount of work to be done, got it back this week.

I changed the engine for a 1.7 Puma item. The interior now has carpet, a full dash and a few other little bits.

In the process of building it back up and sorting all the little jobs out now.

I'm still building it up and it's a right state from being in the shop. Windows went in today though so it looks more complete.

I put a 1.7 Puma engine in it, which is giving me some grief. Hoping I'll get it sorted soon.

Haha looks it doesn't it! Same car, promise!

Today was eventful!

A friend managed to get me some driveshafts along with MAF's and ICV's to test on the engine - been having some troubles with it

My mate Jamie also popped over this morning to hand me a TPS.

First off the spark plugs needed changing as the old ones were knackered.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/67621154@N05/6956070731/http://www.flickr.com/photos/67621154@N05/6956070731/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/67621154@N05/, on Flickr

While Jamie was still there, we had a look at this TPS problem. After lots of checks we narrowed it down to the Sensor itself - the wiring and throttle were fine with no airleaks present.

The old TPS had been slightly bent, meaning the ECU was always seeing a constant throttle position due to how it sat. We swapped these over and it sorted it.

The old one

http://www.flickr.com/photos/67621154@N05/6956071247/http://www.flickr.com/photos/67621154@N05/6956071247/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/67621154@N05/, on Flickr

I then put the shafts in and filled up the box with oil

http://www.flickr.com/photos/67621154@N05/6809958612/http://www.flickr.com/photos/67621154@N05/6809958612/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/67621154@N05/, on Flickr

The brakes and clutched needed a quick bleed, so i did that. Then it was time to see if it actually worked, which it did!

CLICK for YouTube Video

That was about all that happened. I took it for a drive down the road and all is well

Whoring time

It is a MK5 front, yes. Should be getting the bumper and skirts back this weekend (he says...)

Made up a switch panel!

Got mine from Ford. Soldered wire onto the pins on the back of the button and wired it in that way.

Long day at the garage today!! And good progress.

A friend - Jamie Moore - popped along and I quite frankly needed his help. We started off by sorting some wiring and getting the Fan wired into a switch. The Engine start button was then plugged in, along with the rear fog. At this point, we noticed the rear lights were doing all sorts of things.

Jamie narrowed it down to the NS cluster which was wired wrong, so he sorted that and all lights work now!

At some point along the way, the brakes were bled, which are massively improved now. Also got a windscreen seal in place, and some other little bits and bobs sorted.

Safe to say the car is ready to run! I just need the bits from the body shop to finish it off so it's actually road worthy!

I decided to take the car out today for a bit, and get used to driving it again. I brought it back to mine to wipe all the crap off it and give it a bit of a shine up.

The inside (which needs a hoovering!)

Engine pulls so nicely now the TPS is fixed. Pops loads too.

Just need the spacers on the front, wheel colour change, side skirts on and some small bits here and there, and it'll be "done"

Does look stunning! Do kind of wish you kept the mk4 front end though, there aren't enough nice mk4s around.
