Default XR3i to RS turbo

I have recently got a mint '91 XR3i (I swapped my 2lt laser cappa for it). The XR came with the S2 RS turbo arches and skirts. They were on the car previously.

Anyway, I'm going to do the RST conversion on the XR and I was looking to find out what is the easiest way to put the kit on (more so the arches) and can I buy a kit to turbo the stand engine or would a transplant be an easier/cheeper option?

I have just put a SS exhaust on it and bought an RS turbo bonnet for it last night and I don't want to just run around in a look-a-like. I want to go the full hogg. So if anyone could shed a little light on this for me I would be most greatful.

Danny.

The arches you will prob have to bond on with some tiger seal ,the skirts should have a little black plastic strip that rivets to the sill and the skirt then hooks over this

The cheapest and cleverest way to do this is to find a cheap rusty rst and reshell it to your car.

Good luck

You'll want to put a fiesta rs turbo running gear in mate as your already running EFI- Very simple conversion!

would this be if I convert the engine or if I'm doing the whole transplant?

I got some gorilla glue for the arches and I got a RS turbo bonnet last night, it's a bit rough (not rust, the badge has been filled in recently with fiberglass and hasn't been cleaned up) and needs painted. However for £29.99 it's the steal of the year I think. I'll get some pics up of the car and bit and bods asap. My brother is currently using the car so it's little bit by little bit. I hope to have the bonnet painted and the kit on with in the next couple of wks.

you have two options for the engine, you either go mfi and change parts listed, engine from a rs turbo, loom, tank and fuel pump, dash clocks as these are different on late speck xr3i, exhaust, or you have a rst turbo fiesta and you use the engine and exhaust, but convert your loom to suit the engine manangment, either way is good but bit more technical with fiesta rst, hope this helps

You would want to get the engine side of things sorted before you go looking for gorilla glue

so it's not as simple dropping a rs scort engine, ecu and loom into it then. Could someone please give me a ball park figure for a "dead" RS T and where to look for them. I have never done a RST before and have no idea where to find these bad boys. I normally only tweek the engine that is in the car. I have never had to do ecu and wiring transplants before, so I think I might be a bit out of my depth with this but as the saying goes "in for a penny......."

Don't bother. The phrase 'biting off more than you can chew' springs to mind!

This wouldn't be my first transplant, It would just be the first time I did an XR3i to a RS turbo, if this makes any diff?

the only way to learn mate is to jump in head first is my advice if you get stuck their are plenty of people on here who will help you out good luck with it but as advised id sort the engine and running gear before you worry bout bodykits etc

That's how I learned about the capri's I started with a pinto and jumped in feet first. The only reason I was talking about putting the kit on first is because I have it here at the mo. I'm currently looking for an engine, ecu etc etc. The only prob is finding one. I would prefer to get a "dead" escort rs turbo and just re-shelling it with mine. This would be easier all round.

this may sound stupid but if your gonna buy a deas s2 then do all the work to convert you 3i why not just sell the 3i and put the money together with the cash to buy the dead s2 and buy a reasonable s2 you can get a usable runner for about 1500 quid

engine wise i wouldnt piss around with buying an escort turbo loom etc, the efi loom you have with pin changes and a fiesta turbo engine is defo the way forward unless you like breaking down lol

Leave it looking standard mate, trust me! If you want the look of an rst, buy one. It will be much cheaper and less hassle in the long run if you find a good one IMO
