Well some more progress eventually, although typically we didnt take any pictures, doh.

I went down and passed rob some spanners while he was working on it (that seemed to be how the workload went anyway, he's a lot keener than me, LOL)
The front suspension is now swapped over to the lowering springs I got, the gearbox is back in again with a new circlip and washer on the shaft after inspection showed that luckily there seems to be no damage to the retention groove.
Front brakes have been given a new set of fast road pads, I need to find something better in the long term but hopefully mintex 1144 will be enough for now at least.

So tonight I celebrated with some newly powder coated wheels for it, in a rather sexy shade of gold.

Team dynamics monza's, quite impressed at how light they are.

Awesome bargain too, 18.75 each!

Thats less than just the powder coating cost the guy who got them done, so I basically got the powder cheap and the wheels for free!

Got 2 events in mind currently:

Scatter on the 16th of april, but I dont think I can get the time off work
Combe on the 25th of april

Few minor things to do first, but all in all it seems ok.

Took it out down some back lanes today and the brakes were smoking when I stopped, so I guess the new pads are run in now

Probably going to need some bigger brakes or a lighter right foot.

The engine is a bit shit as the lag is fucking terrible, but the handling makes up for it to a certain extent, was really good fun down the lanes.

PS

Other than the tax and the new wheels/tyres, I did indeed manage to get it finished for 500 quid all in

Then done about the same again for a set of wheels and 2 sets of tyres plus fitting, and 100 quid on tax.

So stands me at about 1100 quid or so ready to go, that even included some new oil in the box and engine, lol

Not a bad build cost really and unlike a xe nova it will actually handle !

That tb'd clio I mentioned to you a while back ended up being a nightmare, a mate went to get it but wanted to see it running first, it was flooding number 4 on cranking, checked ecu and found it to be full of water so Its safe to say the exhaust manifold and tb's would of been the only thing worth having !

Go steady on that middle pedal !

I really dont think for 500 quid I could have done any better elsewhere TBH, really cant think of anything realistic at that money which Id prefer to spend the day ragging about in.

Well other than a couple of teenage hookers obviously.

Approx cost brakedown:

car: 250, didnt drive, 20 quid to sort that
harnesses: 15 quid for a meal for mongo
buckets: had already
brakes: 40 quid
Fluids: 40 quid
collecting it and trailer hire etc: 75 quid
springs: 20 quid

ish, might be remembering some of that wrong, its about right though.

You'll have to have a go of it at some point, to see if you can handle the lack of power after doing trackdays in your cossie!

I can see it being a bit frustrating on the straights

mine is basically the same, and yeah the straights are a weak point, but with good brakes and corning speedsm you soon catch the point and squirt people

cant wait to be on track against it

Yeah it was fun on the pikey tyres for that, on the 888s its not so keen to do it, will be fine on a track but on the road its a case of you arent really going quick enough to in most situations.

I take it that the carbon bonnets arent likely to be in reach of my pikey budget?

Ive noticed standard bonnet weights a fucking lot, so would love to lose it!
