Budget track tool, renault clio 16v, williams powered, doing engine rebuild now
Me and Rob have finally got round to buying this clio "williams" that my mate was selling cheap that I mentioned on here before as we decided we want something totally disposable and cheap to run that we can just jump in for random last minute trackdays and not giving a toss about.
2 minor problems with it:
1) its a not a williams like he thought, its just been stickered as one, its a 1.8 16v
2) it doesnt have any drive at the moment, its got either a fucked diff or box or driveshaft, not bothered to look which yet.
Plans:
Fix whatever is stopping it from driving
Its already got a filter and decent exhaust, so just a service for the engine
Strip it out
Fit some cheap buckets I had lieing about
plus 3 point harnesses (swapped for a meal out cheers mongo!)
Cut the front springs down one coil to make the suspension a bit harder or fit some cheapy firmer springs (not looked at them properly yet to decide)
Drop the torsion bar down a touch
Whack on some grippy pads on the standard brakes
Get some sort of sticky tyres onto it
Drive it
No doubt ending with crashing it somewhere on a racetrack and throwing it in the bin
Total budget we're aiming to come in around is 500 quid including taxing it
(not including tyres)
Spent so far:
250 quid to buy
I dropped it off at the naval base this lunchtime for rob to crack on with stripping out, so hopefully he'll get some pictures of it up later, deal is I supply the parts and he supplies the labour as at the moment he's skint but got some spare time and access to a ramp/tools etc for a few hours a week or so.

i bought one of these a while ago, take the n/s driveshaft out(it should be 3 bolt type at box)
when you get the shaft out in the box there is a circlip that holds the diff in place, more than likely it will be broken, they are about Ł1.80 from renault
easiest way to tell is to get in the car and drive it,if the speedo goes up but the car dont move it will be this clip
hope this helps mate

after chip dropped it off to me i was going to just park it up, but after finding out there is more problems with my new exhuast manifold the worry for bedford started to set in so thought it best to make a start
first thing was to remove the locking wheel nuts that had no key due to it being broken oooppps
chip had began to drill them out but was going to take a long time, first i tryed some locking wheel nut removers and they did not work either so was not looking good, then i had a brain wave the style of nut ment you could get a punch onto them so i beat them around with a hammer perfect out they come
then i had the bug and it was time to get stripping
first some pics of the car
as you can see form the pics its in very good nick few dents here and there but nothing that is a problem on a track car.
humm far to much interia
so started to make a pile of parts lol
that soon turned into a bigger one
started to get a little dark so stopped with the pics but the front seats are also out as is the drivers door card.
just need to decide if we are going to remove the electric front windows, doors weighs a ton compared to the gte lol
looks very tidy under the bonnet aswell

PassionFord Post Whore!!
could I buy the electric window shit off you?
I have a 1.2 LGS(little green shitter) which I love, as it costs me fuck all to run, but would not mind some central locking and electric windows

Complete bargain Chipper
I used to have one of these years ago, replaced the engine 1.8 F7P engine for the williams 2.0 F7R and it went very nicely for what it was, handled excellently with coilovers on the front, lowered torsion bar.
Like Dunc im also a member of cliosport.net but not been on there in years!
i'll be keeping an eye on this thread

PassionFord Post Whore!!
by the way theres a place between my place and weston that can supply real nice quality 3mm polycarb. cost me just under Ł80 for enough to do the fiesta iirc. which is less than what the shite stuff B&Q sell wouldve costed. i struggled to find 3mm, everywhere before them i looked only did 4mm and 2mm, 4mm being too thick and heavy, 2mm being way to flimsy. i have their business card still if you want thier number.

Stu, yes send me their number please mate.
Some Gmax budget lowering springs turned up at my place today.
Tenner for the spring and a tenner for postage
Have also ordered from 1144 mintex pads, 45 quid plus tenner postage
So thats 75 quid more of the budget gone.
Robs ordered a couple of the circlips and washers to fix the diff with (worth having spare)
Think thats about 20 quid with some gearbox oil included
So thats 345 quid or so into the budget so far.
Ive also ordered some tyres, but we werent going to include the price of those as thats just a consumable anyway not part of the build as such.
So we've got 155 quid left now and thats meant to include the tax
Only things left to aquire now though that Im aware of are:
Oil / Filter for the engine
Couple of sheets of perspex/polycarb for pikey spec light windows
Some fittings for the Accusump porkie kindly donated
Going to be tight!
