ok folks , as always the computer crashed halfway thru updating ,

so here we go again ,

got the diff stripped today so send down to mark , upon inspoection shes mint, no wear at all and tight as a drum ,

so that will get new seals and shout be ok ,

started on he head

exhaust

my weapon of choice

basically the plan is for around 450 hp , and the head will flow near that as standard , so it wasnt a case of opening them wayyy up , more a mild going over , sharpen up the intake of the ports a little and then a smooth of the casting marks ,

i was deffo weary bout doing this , as i can be a bit ham fisted , but karl kept an eye on proceedings , after all im no fucking nick warples lol ,

i popped home and got the cometic inlet gasket , and was pleasntly surprised

id of thought id of been out side the gasket line ,so theres a little more to play with , but seeing as i have work tonight , ive roped karl into port matching the inlet and head to the gasket , and just giving a little more of a fettle where he sees fit ,

also picked up a 6 paddle clutch plat off the bay , cheap as chips ,

also had a good mate of mine fab these up at work ,

no not rocket launchers ,

there my new rear turrets , i know they look huge , and they are but only 15 % of what you see there is going to be in the car , better to take off than add on ,

and with my eccentric top mounts in

big thanks to tony @ nuts-r-us for the mounts, they were origanally destined for the front , but as ususal mark @ mk msport had a rather trick set hes making up for me more on them later ,

also thanks to md cos , for the new wheel ,

i give you one slighly curbed comp 18x 8 et 33 6 spoke

got it for a bargain , so ill use it to mock up the required offset and what not , then buy a new set from reyland ,

oh and it will re furb lol , so it will be going in the boot as me spare lol ,

tomorrow im going to have a tool made up to put my valave giudes in when the portings done , i would of hade two made for the stem oil seals but it seems ive used my set when over hauling daz aka cragrats cylinder head for him eailrer in the year doh ,

so ill gave matt lewis a call tomorrow and get a set orderd up , then get the head back together as soon as i buy my newman double valve springs ,

jimbos almost done with the pistons , just bowling them down to my low comp ,

so they should be back shortly,

beef

cheers paul ,

like i said im a complete novice when it comes to it , i was paranoid i was going to ruin it ,

i know its a bit of a black art when it comes the getting the very most out of them , but i dont have 100-1500 quid to get a cnc head lol ,

just about taking time with it , i used the arbour bit to take the thick off , then a scotch wheel with flap inserts , to smooth , then a scotch wheel to buff ,

granted the process will be re doen as im happy to go a little further with looking at the gasket ,

but just somoothing them makes all the difference ,

i hope

ok , not alot done today ,between sleeping off nightshift , and then going to give karl a hand

although i did find time to pop to my loacal machine shop and have this made up

its a custom drift to put in my bronze valve guides,

profiled collar for the top of the guide , to stop splaying when knocking in ,

top shank of guide ,

and how it sits in the drift ,

and had the handle knurled to avoid slipping

pleased as puch with it and only set me back a tenner ,

which is good as it was only when i got to karls he reminded me that the exhaust guides are 8 mm opposed to the 7mm of the inlet lol

so ill be popping over to have a secondary one made

then when i get my stem seals ( cough cough ) ill have two made to suit them

so yeah , if any one gets stuck for em , there always there lol

Ps top work!!!

nothing whizzat , there just standard yb bronze guides,

but genrally people use just a solid round bar to knock them in ,

that runs the risk of slipping , or damaging the guide or the head

where as the way this is made , theres no risk to the valve guide or slipping on the head, also as it hold the guide paralell to the bar , you know your driving it in square so to speak

lol i aint saying im the first to make this , in fact its a copied idea ,

for what it cost would you run the risk of not using it lol

Good stuff mate! cars looking brilliant, like the guide drift too, is that how they insert guides at head shops etc? and do you have to ream them or anything after fitting..? And is that a carbide cutter you used on the head..... where did you get it

Cheers and keep up the good work

Rob,

local engineers said they genrally press them home with a dowel , but wanted to charge a £ 5 per guide , im just going to put them in the freezer overnight before putting them in the head ,

as rob said you have to ream them , but this is one thing im not clued up on , so if anyone can shed some light ,

i know karls done it before , but not sure on acceptable clearances ?? anyone ??

and yeah i think its a carbide cutter, karl had this one already but toolstores and our local snap on dealer sells them different shapes and profiles,
