Stu took some pics whilst he was working this weekend...

one of the nice touches on the cool (and HUGE for a Westy) Proalloy fuel tank are these little retaining nipples...

they fit into these little holes in these brackets. Obviously there are straps as well...

Have you thought about beefing up the diff cage mounts like they do on the newer chassis? I.e. like mine?

I noticed you have extra diagonals from the top of the chassis to the rear of the cage but what about the round bars going up from the mount point?

Stu also noticed this..... on saturday

its too late now though!

It will be fine. The extra ones we have put in will be enough I think along with the gusseting

Yeah, to be fair the mounts very rarely failed on the older chassis anyway.

At the end of the day, if it fails then you can strengthen it when you repair it - which shouldn't be a major job.

Those bars on the newer chassis are for the retractable seat belt units to have a stronger mount, not to strengthen the diff cage although I agree they do look like they should help. Its not usually the top mounts that break eiether. Its the bottom mounts or the lower cage rails.

The rear of Lee's is the same as mine now with every inner and outer diff cage and suspension pickup point gusseted. Its also got a cross bar at the back of the diff cage to stop it twisting, the 2 uprights to the rear shock pickups and the diff is mounted differently to the normal 12mm Bar and nut setup having 12mm steel inserts in the casing and then bolting it into the chassis.

It should be bulletproof now. Mine has been fine for 3 years with more power so fingers crossed.

A mate at work has just had his Westy back, with a Dunnell Duratec engine...he says it flies, so im guessing this is gonna take off! He also has the new style bodywork which i really prefer over the older style, are you keeping with the original look?

To be clear!

The uprights are made by Westfield and accept the Sierra rear bearing and hub assembly.

I am sure these upright assemblies could be used with good effect on many RWD conversions.
