looks stunning, an amazing difference from when you got it!

Sump looks worrying, is it steel or alloy?

Any pics of the intercooler/chargecooler setup?

WOW what a stunning job youve made of that.. In hindsight, would you have been better buying a kit and building a new one from scratch, as there appears to be very little of the old car left!

Alloy sump.

Will be running Toyo 205/50-15's 888's on the front instead of the Avon CR500's that are 195/45-15 on it now... that will give the sump a touch more room.

I agree its low... and I am VERY VERY clumsy!

Just fit a sump guard so that if you do hit anything it doesnt smash the sump it simply lifts the car up over the bump, problem solved.

As lee mentions its just more complexity and risk of failure, more expense, more weight, more work for stu, and I cant think of a single benefit it offers that will actually benefit lee with this car? can you?

A small price to pay for the benefits of a dry sump set up, considering the abuse this will get on the circuit.

I need not explain to you the benefits of a dry sump system im sure you are knowledgable enough to understand these.

Depends though if Lee wishes to go down this route, its a budget build afterall..

I know of an xe powered westy running with a Pace tank in the passanger foot well which does not hinder him taking passanger's out at all.

sump guard would further reduce the ground clearance and to be of any benefit, by at least half an inch! given that to me it looks like he has about 2.5 inches now, not a chance!

I cant think of any benefits to a dry sump that will of any use to lee on this engine and this car other than the better ground clearance and thats not going to be an issue on track anyway so not a problem really either surely as thats main use of the car?

so you will have to explain them to me after all mate as you must be crediting me with more knowledge about dry sumps than I have!

Only potential benefits I can think off hand really with a dry sump are:
crankcase pressure reduced - not a problem on this spec engine
able to rev further - hes on a small turbo and hydraulic lifters
increased oil capacity - not required and is more weight
less risk of oil surge - cossie sump easily modified to avoid this issue anyway

Chip,

You fully understand why a dry sump would be a good move on an engine!
Please spare me the above

Lee's car will handle as well as any race car and with the power plant sat in there being a good few hp over even some race cars which run with one, it can only aid the engines performance.

Also will reduce the risk of knocking that sump on the track under compression on rumble strips or apex where there is a drop i.e Combe on the corner of Camp.

However with a sump/guard that looks like its fairly close to the floor the options are minimal.

Im only sugessting the route of dry sumpage as an option. Yes its extra ŁŁŁŁ BUT the benefits are ALSO there for the future plans

Im sure this will be running with a gt30/35 by the end of the year anyway.

Lee, when is it out on track then?

Be good to see the results of the camera set up.

As per above, I genuinely dont see what advantage it will offer to lee, same as I dont use one myself on my car either.

9500rpm N/A screamer, or full slicks race car, then fair enough, but 7500rpm trackday westy on 888's it just doesnt seem an issue to me.

Karl Norris once said something about YB's not being very well suited for dry sumping... I cant remember the reasons...

was on here. I will do a search....

my sump wont ever have surge issues... its bigwinged and 'gated'

If its foambacked to spread the impact then its better than nothing, but personally I would want it going to the spaceframe personally!

On a big wing cossie sump, there isnt really much opportunity left to get from the sumpguard to the block TBH mate, but yes if you could do so that would obviously be fine.

What's wrong with it bolted to the sump as a skid plate?

What the 2 threaded holes for in a YB sump?

for stopping the sump gettin slowly worn away on speedbumps etc, nothing wrong, for protecting against a big impact, although an improvement its not ideal.

cant see it being an issue on this particular application though, its not like lee takes it over hump back bridges on road rallies etc

its fine for preventing abrasion, but in a knock its likely to still break the sump casting
