Nope. Going better than Ohlins now. Penske are working with NASA and are making me some special 'hover' suspension made from unobtanium and utilising antimatter inside the shocks....

its all very exciting stuff!

Yep, this is one of them:

It does a good job of demonstrating why it should have had a full cage, the person test driving it died in that accident, as did his female passenger.

The other car was a toyota yaris, with a relatively light amount of front end damage:

Is that the VXR-engined one?

All the VXR-engines ones I've seen so far have been white.

I grew up across the road from the Westfield factory, and never seen a white one until recently.

Yes, potential customer took it out for a test drive, its scarey how piss weak these westy's actually are without a chage, that was only a low speed colision with a small car.
The passenger died at the scene, the driver died shortly after, as far as im aware the yaris driver had no injuries.

Im of the opinion that both the driver and passenger would still be alive from that accident if westfield had chosen to fit a cage to their demonstrator, it would have given the car more strength than the tyres had grip, so instead of being folded in, it would have just slid the whole car across the road.

Chip, given the unknown details of exactly what happened and the sad outcome I dont think its appropriate to make assumptions and post the pictures on this thread mate.

There is a single thread on the WSCC forum about this where you can post your opinions of what happened.

Stu, those pictures were from a newspaper's public facing website, so its not like its me "publishing them", I just think that people reading this thread and being inspired by the awesome work you have done with Lee's car should realise the importance of the cage as these cars are deathtraps without one.

If you really do feel strongly that you dont want the pictures in here though to show the importance of having a cage, then I will of course remove them, but personally I think anyone thinking of buying or building a westy should be shown them.

Your call mate

I know the point you're making Chip, but the fact that all four wheels are still in pretty much the original position suggests it was VERY bad luck for both occupants to die in that crash. Most 'bumped' Westfield type kit cars usually end up folding/removing a wheel/s on impact - acting almost like a crumple zone. Looks like that one could have gone in side/head first..?

Anyway, back on topic, it's looking bloody awesome.
And nice work on the research this weekend Lee, Stu must be very proud of you

Will it be ready for the track evening at Donny this Friday?

Chip, I agree that having a cage is obviously likely to make the car safer but remember the standard uncaged factory car now has full European EC type approval.

I am no expert and have not read the thousands of pages on various govenment websites relating to this but I assume it had to undergo some fairly challenging crash testing procedures to get that?

Now....back to the topic of the thread and lets celebrate what must be the 200th hour at least of me razzing up the Frijj!

I forgot my camera so update pics will be later.

New fuel tank is now in place and bolted down. Gonna spank Lees credit card on Aeroquip fittings for it today!

Im not too bothered about me having more cash, I just wish Lee had a lot less so I wouldnt feel quite so financially inadequete with what I do have.

Research was crucial... clearly I would rather have been crawling about on my knees taking the skin of my knuckles putting the Westy back together though

I got overtaken by a Carrera GT at full chat on a road just outside the Ring. it was the greatest moment of my life

I got a very poo piccy!
