sounds really cool, but I just cant get my head round how it works? will the supercharger allow a certain amount of air to just blow through it?

The supercharger pressurizes all the air that enters the engine, i estimate this would be around 10psi on my existing engine and would make around 330bhp.

By fitting the turbo i'll be blowing pressurized air into the intake of the supercharger at again, say 10psi, but as the supercharger is repressurizing the air, it'll enter the engine at more like 26/27psi but will hopefully be at around the same inlet air temperature

In essence all i'm doing is presenting the supercharger with a lot more air!

Very cool mate, as oyu know I looked into this a fair bit. Just had too much trouble trying to fit it in a Mk1 Fiesta

Are you literally blowing the turbo straight into the supercharger?

Very cool mate, wish I'd kept with mine

Yes mate - out the compressor housing and straight into the supercharger intake.

I actually need to thank AustenW for lighting the fuse in me to do this... I'd always been told that the Powerworks charger wouldn't take boost being blown in to it, however, that was all hearsay and i think something of an urban myth as Austen did a lot of research on it and was told that they are safe to take boost!

I had thought about doing this 18months ago but knocked the idea on the head

500ish power wise... Gone ported shroud to try and increase the efficiency and flow at sub 1 bar boost levels!

how does a ported shroud effect the turbos efficiency of the turbo bud ?

it flows air around the compressor wheel ?

when we did back to back comparrisons on a gt35 in car

it helps with the surge the gt35 has at 4000-4500 but it made it come on boost slower

Jimbo, don't forget i'm physically sucking air through it, the supercharger is drawing through the turbocharger. The ported shroud will help with that... Also, i shouldn't run anywhere near surge with this setup as the turbo was chosen to be lazy

If you want to make 400bhp, you'd do it at 1 bar... If you wanted to make 700bhp, you'd do it at 2.5 bar

Yours for £900 + postage

Because you are compressing air that is already compressed it culminates as the square of the pressure ratios

I am running a cooler - its a chargecooler and is mounted inside the powerworks unit, hence the using a large turbo to move a lot of air at low boost so as not to superheat the air running 3 bar on a T3

Lol - sadly not local to me Beef, I got it at Autosport on Friday and they've given me a journal bearing core and sold it to me as a roller bearing core...

This one is external gate and it's on a T4 flange.

Honestly - this would be a bit laggy if you just wanted 500bhp, but it would do it effortlessly!

so the air thats going around the comp wheel is helping the superchargers sucking (in leighmans terms ) ? cool

i was just saying that it will not help with the turbo coming on boost, but i dont know how yours is going to work

will it just be like a turbo charged engine, with a super charger between the compresser outlet and the charge cooler ??

jimbo simple way of thinking about it

low engine speeds the charger is doing the work the turbo is just a small restriction on the inlet

higher engine speeds the turbo starts to work making the charger work more efficiantly due to the higher inlet preshure

all told will is wanting to get a higher boost preshure without the inlet temp getting to high as upping the boost of the charger would do or useing a smaller turbo on its own

lol there is enough room in the bay of your escort to fit a big cooler though so no need to fit both

the focus is a bit more cramped

Erm, the tial kit comes with 1 spring... The precision comes with all of them! Thats a £15 a spring saving The precision will fit onto a 44mm Tial take off, but obviously you'll lose 2mm of gas flow. Oh and i think it's more appropriately priced

saves you having to mix racefuel in everytime you go the petrol station, just top up your water a little bit more often

Nice in theory but i would NEVER ever rely on water injection to hold my engine together.

Jets, lines etc. get blocked very easily!

Water injection will be turned off for mapping, the car will be mapped safe and then it will be turned back on as an additional safety measure!

Nobody should do that. Ever. Its a last chance suppressant only.
Anyway Will, I feel a tin of power pour per tank at £15 a tub will allow you to run this baby at good power without the need for expensive finger eating race fuel. Worth a thought.
