Just took all day to read this post and damn there is a lot of work gone into this, Im am loving the dedication to the motor and just to take a st 170 and tweak it. I would not have the first inclination of how to go about the tech stuff but really enjoyed the read, Will your in Blackpool? Im in Preston down the road, you will have to post it's first outing because I definately want to see this in the metal.
One question and this isn't a slur, why an ST 170? All this know how and money, why not a different motor? EVO (already been done?) an FRS or other?
Great progress and looking forward to the rest of the thread?

I am into evo money, yes, you're absolutely right! However, i've had 3 focus's before and i like them, their handling etc. More importantly I like challenges and doing things properly. Allows me to test ideas and theories and see how they behave.

Right! Did a bit today, need to get the interior stuff all done ready for the cage coming back from the powdercoaters.
So...
First Job - Fuel Swirl Pot. I want all the fuel components insidfe the car on anti-vibration mounts to try and reduce the in cabin noise:
Rivnuts fitted:
Anti Vibration Mounts fitted:
Out with the new Pro Bolt Lightweight fastenings kit:
Fuel Swirl Pot now secured
Then it was time to modify the water injection tank to work with the Aquamist level sensor:
Et voila:
Next it was on to the doorcards:
First job was to connect the handle back up:
Then screw the carbon doorcard to the door:
Re routed all the wiring so it was inside the door with only one plug left out
For this:
Needs a little tidy up trim of the carpet but pretty much done:
Drivers side isn't far behind!
More tomorrow hopefully!

Very nice project, just read through and some nice touches on it, maybe i missed the name of it but what make and where from is the rear strut brace?
Also, the heat wrapping on the exhaust manifold, how hard was it to remove the heatshields and everything?

The heat shields are normally so rotten they fall off pretty easily
If you're interested, i'll be selling my heatwrapped manifold when my turbo manifold arrives?

Managed a little more today!
Drivers side doorcard is all done and mounted.
Then it was time to trim some carbon:
Then the time consuming trimming - P.S note to self, wear a mask, took 10 mins of blowing my nose to get all the carbon dust out!
Which fits in here:
And then out came the lightweight fastenings again... et voila!
Hoping to get the cage back from powdercoating next week

Righty - quick picture update...
Changed the rear lights from the Depo's to the LED smoked rears:
From:
To:
Bought a new digital nitrous gauge to match the AEM wideband:
And got the cage back from having the harness bar welded in and powder coating:
Chucked it in the car with the help of James:
However...
We found a 'few' problems...
1) The front legs of the roll cage block the light switch on the drivers side and obstruct the opening of the glovebox on the passenger side.
2) The 'bolt in' rollcage seemingly doesn't 'bolt in' - it actually needs brackets welding in all 6 places to 'bolt' to
So after spending all this time lovingly trimming the interior, i've now got to rip it all out, do some welding and start again.
Not happy!

Well. Done a little more tonight...
Pushed on and got the plates shoved under the cage feet for now (to be welded at a later date!) and started putting the interior back.
Harnesses now secured onto the harness bar:
Mounted the new nitrous pressure gauge:
Moved the aquamist gauge:
Looks like this now:
And finally remembered to take pictures of the replacement turbo
Its a GT3076R and will be running a Tial V Band Stainless Steel exhaust housing if heaven forbid Owen Developments ever send it
Bitesize chunks...

I'm back in Bradford for the weekend i'm afraid fella - will ring you over the weekend
Quick update - just unpacked a couple of parcels!
Shock horror, it's finally arrived!!!
Tial 0.82AR GT3076R Stainless Steel V Band Housing:
And...
Coil on plug ignition Due to my aeroquip oil breather coming out the cam cover, the proximity to the coilpack and leads has bothered me and as I have an ECU capable of running coil on plug... i've gone for it!
Oh, and i found some suitable anti vibration mounts for the fuel pump:
Mounted:
Been told my manifold is about 5-10 days away!

Using a fabricator in the States who's been recommended to me, he's doing it to my specifications in terms of material wall thickness, welds etc. and for the manifold and downpipe with external wastegate return he's CONSIDERABLY cheaper than the UK equivalent

Stainless.
Amazing as inconel is - i couldn't justify the cost at this stage!
Plus - as the application is somewhat bespoke, any alterations would need to be performed in an argon purge - not something most welders have!

We'll see. Not an essential job at the moment and part of me quite likes the silver contrast

Christ only knows lol
Fortunately i've got a very good friend of mine starting at M-Sport in a few weeks time as a sparky there.
He's ex Prodrive and ex Aston Martin race team and we were at college together 5 years ago
He's agreed to lend me a hand on the wiring, be great to have someone on the other end of the multimeter!
I think Central Day might be too big an ask, but hopefully not long after
