What a day today has been. Up at 8am and into the garage at 8:30 Plenty more electrics done today too.
The first job was to populate the fuse/relay board with the fuse bases and relay bases and fit the board into place.
A little closer
And now the first 2 wires are firmly home
Soon to be followed by a few more
The main feed distribution block was fitted into place and the main feed cable was also fitted too. This was the block I used on my old Cossie to make the battery terminal a little less busy - so was a good keep
The main fuse was also fitted too - £1.85 off ebay complete with 60A fuse - bargain
A few more wires later and its starting to get a bit busier in the fusebox ......
Meanwhile, the metal for my rollcage arrived - £63 delivered - good value
Which was soon bent into shape to form the A-C main roll hoops - These will be gusseted for strength.
After all that, the postman eventually arrived with my rather expensive Siemens VDO Gauges - 80mm and they are tacho and speedo.
So I took the opprtunity to fit the rest of the gauges - these arn't overly brilliant, but cheap (£80 for all 5) and should do the job. they are (from left to right)
Oil temp, Oil Pressure, Coolant Temp, Voltage, Fuel Gauge (a modified Oil Temp gauge - does the job )
All in all, not a bad days work at all

I had EXACLEY the same thought Rad -hence going to gusset the bends. Also the bends are weld points anywy for other parts of the cage, so the srength should hopefully be there.
I should of bought a propper mandrel pipe bender

u need to start again with your thoughts on the cage IMO
Looks truly awful
If its on a budget Im sure some one here could bend them for a small price.

If you can weld, fill the steel tube with sand , weld up either end of the tube and then bend the tubing and remove the sand
tried and tested way of stopping the tube cave in.

I had thought of that as it happens aswell, but after I had bent the metal
I still have a length left to give it a go with as it happens.......

Maybe the die I was using is the wrong size, it said 50mm on the side and thats what the material is.
Out of interest, what size material is your cage made out of?

The pipe fit in the tube but with a couple of mm either side of it, its a big bugger, 6" minimum end to end definately.
I'll have a try with the welded end and bag of sand tomorrow :king;

pipe is measured using the inner diameter, tube is measured using the outside diameter that'll be why the die doesn't fit properly. Those benders are no good for thin walled tube though you might have some success with the sand method.

Cheers boys - the metal will definately not be wasted - I DON'T waste stuff
Anyway, comments on the fuse/relay box - would be nice to hear what people think to it

That explains it then - I thought I had bought the wrong material when it didn't fit

I'd be really interested to see what you can do with the sand, I've been looking at benders(!) for a while and the only decent ones available are in the states. We only seem to get those pipe benders over here
I toyed with the idea of making my own but getting a proper die and guide made would cost a fortune.
Have a look at http://www.jd2.com/ and http://www.pro-tools.com/

Good work mate, could have drilled the holes in the fusebox in a straight line though!
A smaller OEM spoiler will be just as effective and better looking I reckon Paul, also keep at it with the cage, you'll get the hang of it! Fair play for having a go!

The cage isn't looking so good as you know, but it's all good practice. Better than anything I could do; practice makes perfect. Everything else is great.

Right, what a fucking sore point the cage has become now
Went down to Wicks, bag of kiln dried sand for £1.39 - sorted. Filled one of the tubes up and had a go at bending with the sand in and caps welded on - no joy at all Still did the same kink on the inside
Anyway, on a brighter note, I finished the dashboard off, just need to wire it in (once my cable arrives) and then thats the electrics nearly complete
And with the steerywheel in place
To say I'm proud of myself is little understatement
